This is a post I added to Telkom this morning. I have a new router from them and this morning we had no internet connection.
I called up to find out what the problem was and before I got the choice to hit the right number to be put through, I got told to check that the Guest account is not loaded on my router.

Sure enough, when someone did answer and I had time to log in, the Guest account had been activated.

Not only that, the router's username and password had been reset to the default Admin/Admin

Clearly they have Flashed this router with their own software but this freaks me the F&*%*&%^ out that they can even do this

The post in question https://www.facebook.com/TelkomZA/posts/937316526365411

Has someone else experienced this?

Your router was Factory Reset. When this happens, that happens.

They didn't flash your router. Your router comes flashed with their firmware.

I had a Telkom router for a year or two, and that happened to me multiple times. I don't think it is Telkom's fault, I think it is just a poor router. Buy a better one.

This is very common. The router resets to factory defaults, usually after a power failure.

Have you ever logged on to TI Tracker (https://secure.telkomsa.net/titracker/) and clicked on the my network tab? There's a lot that can be done remotely… and it is rather disconcerting.

lol it happens sometimes with power surges, outages and lightning storms on cheaper routers.
Those surges reset to factory default which is the Telkom guest account as Telkom created their own firmware.

Either change routers or upgrade the firmware on the router to its standard (better) firmware.

I used to keep a document with the username and password for a particularly bad router I had until I upgraded the firmware and fixed it.

Had the same thing a while ago , tried everything. Replaced it with a better quality modem.
