The headline is a bit misleading. The application was turned down because the parties involved were not licenced to broadcast in SA. I'm not sure the content of the broadcasts themselves was an issue.

There is porn every day on TV! what else can they show, Interactive porn? real/virtual smells, feelings and sensations? If not their is not much more the can show, You can only do it in so many ways depending on the Physique of the partners!

Don't Panic used to be easily accessible in SA just 2 or 3 years ago. As stated all you needed was their smart card and to tweak some settings on your normal DSTV decoder.

When I investigated it further it turned out they they had 'politely' stopped servicing South Africa because of some complaints about their allegedly illegal broadcasts. If your satellite footprint covers a country like South Africa, is it illegal to pick up the signal in SA, or just decode it and view it?

This Draconian broadcasting legislation is very annoying.

Its not the idea of porn... its ICASA wanting cash! .. even DSTV were feeling threatned as "Their" decoder base was being used without their blessing.

doubt it.... as far as I know DSTV has only *NOW* applied. (When vodacom went live on its TV)
but who knows... I might be wrong... I cant find anything on ICASA's web site.

What they show currently is all softcore porn, meaning you dont SEE the genitalia errr... "interacting", only the alusion of it. To see the "interacting" would be hardcore porn, and I havent yet seen that on SA tv...

Yes they do and they pay a lot of money for those rights. BUT - I wonder if they have broadcasting rights in every country where they sell DSTV subscriptions....

Pathetic how certain companies are protected in this country. They should make their smart cards available for a sale over the internet from a foreign location. Then there is nothing the monopoly protectors can do. Not that I really care for a porn channel, I have an ADSL connection … :)

We have porn already; they do not show the cock and slices but then that is not to bad as the rest is the full monty on E-tv and the others. A few days ago they aired a nudist camp, All could be seen except the sex acts. What more do you want, or rather as opposing view what wrong with a porn TV channel. These GVT members just cannot think, The heads do not know what the @sses are doing! Maybe only Zuma!
