No service on phone with 8ta sim card. Excellent service with 3g dongle

I have 3g dongle which I use an 8ta sim card to connect to the internet and it works good. I get HSPA+ reception.

Although, when I want to put this sim card in my 2nd phone, an HTC Desire HD, it fails to pick up any sort of reception, it just says Limited Service. I thought it may have been the sim card, but then I went out and bought another 8ta sim and tried it with the phone. It gave me the same problem.

Anyone else encountered this issue? Any help would be appreciated as I would like to get calls on an 8ta number.

is it the 10 gb promo sim?
I dont think that sim allows voice calls

I can use my promo 5 sim in my phone, but only for data. The stupid part is that I can't even call the 8ta helpline from the sim card.

No it's a regular sim card that I bought for R1. I buy the 2+1gb for R149 occasionally and use it in my modem.

the 2+1 deal is similiar to the 10gb promo (TM network only)
so maybe it doesnt allow voice calls?

*** I read "limited service", it means no voice calls either, just SOS.

Is your HTC imported or supplied by local network provider? If later it shouldn't be problem, unless phone settings is wrong. Does it work with any other network SIM?

On the phone setup make sure that automatic network search is enabled. Disable LTE and enable HSPA (3G) and GSM (2G). Try also factory reset.

@CodeTwister also had the same issue with my handset but on the dongle full services H+ but on my phone fluctuated.

Under the impression that the phone uses many freq example 900/1800/2100, jumps between, there was a post on the CELL C forum whereby user had to actually force the freq code example use 1800 ONLY. There is a way to actually do this
