Nokia and Microsoft pin hopes into new Lumia

I am not sure about Nokia's chances of success with their current line of smartphones given the huge mountain they have to climb in fighting rivals like Samsung with both their Android and WP8 running phones.

However, what I am very much convinced of is the fact that Win8 will be taking the tablet market. It already has the PC market @ 91%.

You might ask me why I am so optimistic about Win8 - well it is because Win8 does a much better job of merging the boundaries between PC and tablet. This means that your PC (laptop) will be your tablet with Win8. This something that neither OS X and iOS or Android can do.

What Microsoft has to do, and will do is to woe you the PC user on Windows to its tablet by explaining to you (as if you do not know) that what you are doing right now on your PC can be done on your tablet - just take the screen off the keyboard and there you have it.

Ed Bott of ZDNet explains very well how Windows 8 is a ''No Compromise'' hardware and software ecosystem.

With the Win8 ecosystem thriving (which it will), Nokia's only challenge is how to differentiate itself in order to sell units.

I like going for new stuff ... and would love to give this a go out of curiosity more than anything else ... but if it comes to me spending my money on a device (locked in with a contract for 24 months) I will go for what I know works right now. I will rather go for this in a year's time when developers had enough time to develop apps for the platform ... but not right now with so few apps available. These devices are not just phones any more so content is critical ... the number of apps matters a lot. I want to do stuff with the device ... not just phone, take pictures, chat and surf the web. I want apps. My advice: wait a year.
 
Microsoft doesn't live or die by wp8 but Nokia certainly does. Frankly if wp7 wasn't a hit, I'm not seeing how wp8 will change that.
 
Two years ago I would have cancelled meetings and watched it unfold. Now I can't say it's more than passing curiosity.

It's actually turning out to be a really stunning show. The 920 in particular looks to set a new standard.
 
When there are enough apps to give one decent choices and all app bases are covered I will consider this. Until then I will stay with what I know do offer enough apps no matter what the hardware specs say and how smart it looks. I want a device that can do things (apps) beyond the basics. A year from now will be a good time to make a call on this ecosystem.

I think you mean Windows 7 has the PC market at 91%. Win8 has the market at 0.sumthing %.

I will only be availible in a years time. Enough time, i'd say.
