Is anyone else experiencing problems turning on bluetooth in the Nokia N73. I've had my new handset "repaired" by Vodacom but the problem persists.

This message sounds ominous.
Have you taken your phone in to be checked?
What firmware are you running?

The phone spent 10 days being "repaired" but returned in the same condition. Firmware V2.0628.0.0.1

Try updating to the latest firmware I think its v3.0705.1.031 and see if that helps. You can do it at home using Nokia software updater. The update should work unless you have a Vodafone branded N73 and then the only way to update would be to change the product code.

Thanks. It IS a Vodacome phone. Please explain what you mean by changing the product code.

N73. Is it a good phone to have?

I'm in the process of getting a new phone. Seing as I am a die-hard Nokia fan the N73 caught my eye one day in a VodaShop. How is the battery life really on the N73? Can anyone enlighten me?:)

Well, there's your problem. It's a Vodacom phone.
The Vodacom phones are Vodafone branded, which seems to affect the phone in some way.

For instance, on my N73 (which is not branded in any way) I can set my Network connection on Dual, UMTS or GSM.
The Vodacom Vodafone branded phone you cannot do this, according to several reports from members that posted.

I am getting about 4-5 days on my N73. I switch all services off if I don't use it on the phone. I don't really use the phone to browse with.

Phone NOT repaired after TWO attempts

OK, Vodacom have now had two opportunities to get the bluetooth to work and they have failed.
First attempt was by Vodacom Midrand
Second attempt was by Vodacom Sandton
This morning I went to collect my "repaired" Nokia N73 at Vodacom Sandton City and it failed to work in the store!
The phone has now going back for repair.
This begs the question:
1. What was actually repaired?
2. Don't they test their "repairs"
BTW Trying to hand in a phone or collect a phone at Vodacom Sandton City is not a great experience. The staff are oh-so-slow and often indulge in idle chat with other customers/friends as they punch in a l-o-n-g story into the computer one letter at a time. Is anyone in charge over there?

All Vodacare stores has a Repair policy which should be displayed instore , i suggest you take this up with the Vodashop store manager.

Read the last sentence in my post. There is no one in the store who looks or act like a manager! Period. If there was then the queues would be shorter and the staff would not to chatting amongst themselves.

Hi,

Heres what I did to my Vodafone Branded N73. Had it since January 2007 and it has spent more time at Vodacom then with me. Did some surfing and found a way to upgrade the phone to the N73ME. It involves changing the product code on the Phone (using 3rd party software) to the SA Music Edition one and updating via Nokia Software Updater.

WOW - It seems like a different phone. Bluetooth works like it should. Messaging is not a pain in the @$$ and the phone is much, much, much quicker than before. No more Vodafone shortcuts or menus as well. The Music Player is lovely to use as well. I am not sure if I voided my warrantty by doing this but it seems to be worth it to have a N73 that works like it should.

Please note that this should be done at your own risk. There are numerous stories of ppl that bricked their N73's doing this, it took me about an hour and it was done.

I don't think its such a big risk. The people who bricked their phones removed the cable before the firmware was complete. The same thing would've happened if they did a normal update. I had to change my product code as well before I could update cause when I took the phone for repairs it came back with a product code that couldn't be updated.

Bluetooth issues with Vodacom N73

I cannot get my phone to connect to any bluetooth enabled computer, I've tried several. The infrared also doesn't work and I also can't connect to my flickr account. Looks like Vodacom have worked their magic on my phone too.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Please post a link to the app that will enable me to do stuff beyond sending sms's and making calls. This REALLY sucks. Thanks Vodacom, you are truly a bunch of clowns. And what is that animated rat all about?
