I asked a while back, but think it got lost somewhere . . .

Is this phone being tested? When could we expect it around these parts? . . . not sure if it's worth the wait.

Been in testing for a while, failing video calls.

N80

<deleted by="ic" reason="advertising"/>,

we've got stock of N80, 1yr Nokia SA warranty, why wait for Vodacom to approve it, you can still obtain your connection settings, we've got them in black as well. The N71,N91 also available.

If it was a Vodacom phone (I assume it's not), it would have the setting pre-installed.

Try and use the setting from a similar model, often works. Not that we encourage using uncertified phones on the network!

So are we likely never to see it? Or is there some process whereby Nokia engineers work with Vodacom?

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but let's hope the WLAN support is not the cause of the "failure" ;)

If the phone fails, it goes back to the manufacturer who then resubmits it once fixed. In this case it was an issue with video calling, not WLAN. A few phones with WiFi's been approved.

N80 is a stunning phone

You will not regret the purchase of an N80. I am on CellC and the speed with EDGE has been great.

Also, with the WLAN, you can log into a Telkom TZONE or even the Mugg and Bean Hotspots, or your own home WLAN and surf at incredible speeds.

I have no used the video calling (not supported by CellC), so I cannot comment on it.

It uses the new version of Symbian (S60v3), so there are not many apps available the moment, but this means that the quality of the new apps will be better.

With regard to settings, the N80 is supported by Vodacom, MTN and CellC. There are 3 ways to get settings:
1. From the N80 itself: Go into TOOLS, then SETTINGS WIZARD, then choose OPERATOR. The N80 picks up your network via your SIM and automatically installs email, GPRS and MMS settings on the phone - FREE of charge.
2. Go to www.nokia.com - find the N80 support page and have the standard settings sent to your phone via SMS - also FREE. I have checked this and Vodacom, MTN and CellC settings are available.
3. Phone your network and request settings - may be charged the cost of an SMS.

Stunning phone, you will not regret it.

I know of the i-mates.

If you throw a couple of model numbers, I can check up for you if we're testing them.

Saw a Nokia a while ago, but don't think it's out yet.

I'm due for an upgrade this month.

Any idea yet on how long we will have to wait for the N80?

:)

N80 availability

I have not seen MTN mention anything about the N80 as yet.
I suspect Vodacom has the phone, but are busy testing the video calling feature; they are also replacing the phone's firmware with their own version of VLive firmware - so release should be imminent.
CellC have the phone readily available - you can get it free of charge on an ActiveChat100 contract - R250pm for 100 free minutes anytime.

Your other alternative is to purchase the phone for cash - Nokia themselves have stock and are selling the phone for R5999. (N91 is the same price).

Interesting enough, the N80 I received from CellC is the silver one, and the one that Nokia are selling is the black one.

i wouldnt take a cellc contract unless they gave me 500min at R250! their service is pathetic and so is their billing and everything else...i have two cellc contracts and im definitely not renewing..

the deal seems good if you tsake it as u buying the phone for R6000 and getting 24 months to pay...and the minutes are a bonus - just use them and hope cellc doesnt give u billing nightmares
