How non line of site is it?
a few trees? a building?
a mountain?

Is a multi-hop solution out of the question? Find a point that both ends can see, put a relay on it.

You aren't gonna get anything with good latencies if you are 30KM away from anything... ;)

Agreed. Use a relay. I've done this before with the same problem.

Define good?
One way latency in 30km of fibre is 148microseconds. Obviously this excludes the delays introduced by equipment at either end.
In the air, its a little over 100microseconds. Also excluding delays in equipment and encoding.

Just as an idea. 50km across the Jawug network (very very busy links), about 5 hops through repeaters = 11ms

Again, how non line of sight? What prohibits line of sight? How high is the obstruction? Can you put a hop in the middle? Can you put a reflector on the obstruction?

There are always alternatives, but you need to give much more information than you already have.

I think I found a product. Limax. Non line of sight. Uses 800Mhz so the signal can bend. Gives up to 3meg speed and cost is low. Has anybody used it before?

Way to expensive...

No way, it's cheap! :)

On a serious note, for 30 km go for a custom solution (damn expensive). What will be your biggest hindrance (if you need a wireless solution) is that to receive non-LOS signal over such big distances, you'll need to have a high output power (way above the 10-100 dBm in license-exempt bands) which will require some serious time and money with ICASA. Go for wired if you can.

Lol, give some details.

After getting ADSL at our office in 2003 I wanted to access it from home but I didn't have line of sight. So I decided to set up a relay in the mountain. I used it for almost two years, at first from Cape Town and later from the West Coast 30 km's away. I had to hike up once a month and swap out a car battery!

Aim here
