So if you get this virus, after 2 weeks you're either better or dead. So, when our government found out the virus was here, why didn't they give everyone a weeks warning (to stock up on supplies) and then forbid all movement for 2 weeks, essential workers stay at work, close the borders, the virus dies - - and then we go back to normal life. The virus can't live unless it's passed on within 10 days. In one month we could have been done with this thing.

What a great idea!

The government can forbid heart attacks and other illnesses from happening and woman would be prohibited from giving birth.

Criminals would listen and obey every word the government say.

Floods and fires would be told they were banned from happening.

It’s amazing, who knew the government had such power?

They did. That's what level 5 lockdown was. How do you impose that in a squatter camp though?

The theory sounds plausible but even in that case 2 weeks is not enough. If you're living with others, some may only catch the virus a week or two later. Which means you need to lock everyone in their homes for 4 weeks. But if there are multiple people living together, some may pick it up like a domino effect, 2 weeks after the previous one. With 5 people living together, it's possible that you'd need 10 weeks of locking people in their homes for everyone to be infected once or confirmed virus free.

Lol are you Australian? What happens when you go back to normal life and open your borders?

I see your point. Maybe the two weeks should start with a group hug! :)

I was thinking of that, but I didn't want to make the post too long. Border control would have to be super strict, with full PPEs, quarantine periods, etc, which would be helped if other countries followed the same approach.

Which Australia did and it didn’t work out for them.
Remember they already had laws and methods against introducing alien-species into their ecosystem.

Strict border control along a 3000 km border with no fences?

Valid point about a squatter camp, might take some innovative thinking. Level 5 lockdown still allowed certain people to move around (like nurses, police etc) who then went home everyday, whereas they should stay at work for the 2 weeks, otherwise they pass it on to their families. Not at all nice for them, but better than the 18 month hell they've been through.

They just put up a fence, saw a news report before the pandemic. Got holes in it pretty quickly, but that would be something to keep the army busy for the 2 weeks, instead of them all being together in barracks.

They weren't strict enough in Aussie, let the truckers through freely I believe. But yes, it's not easy.

You expect someone to do a two week shift? When labour laws demand a 40 hour week?

I was allowed to move around during level 5 as I was working with the police. No lockdown was observed in RDP townships nor squatter camps. As soon as the van entered a street it cleared and as soon as it turned the corner the people came out again. And it's impossible to lock up the entire population.

That was along a few km of the Zimbabwe border. The rest of the 3000 km border is mainly unfenced.

The army has been patrolling the border for years before the lockdown in Operation Corona. How many troops do you need for a 3000 km border?
