Bozwana assassination: disputed CCTV footage to drag trial out

THE murder trial of four men accused of assassinating North West billionaire Wandile Bozwana by shooting him several times at the N1 Garsfontein off-ramp, is expected to drag on for some time.

The State is still producing technical evidence regarding CCTV footage of Bozwana’s movements on the day of the killing.

It is claimed Bozwana and business partner and lover, Mpho Baloyi, were followed by a gang as they ran errands in Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton on October 2, 2015.

The prosecution says the pair were followed as they went to a shoe store inside the mall and when they visited a hair and nail salon, where each had a manicure and pedicure.

It is further claimed that they were followed when they went for lunch at McDonald's in Grayston Drive, and that when they headed on the highway towards Pretoria, the gang was still following them.

Men accused of assassinating businessman Wandile Bozwana fail to have case against them dismissed

The men accused of assassinating business mogul Wandile Bozwana have failed in their attempt to have the charges against them dismissed after the State closed its case.

Sipho Hudla, Robert Mathupha, Vusi "khekhe" Mathibela, and Bonginkosi Khumalo appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Friday, where Judge Mokhine Mosopa handed down judgment on the Section 174 application.

After the State closed its case in the trial, which started in 2018, the defence for the accused brought the Section 174 application, arguing that matter be discharged as the State had presented no prima facie evidence proving that the accused had committed the crimes they were charged with.

Bozwana was murdered in a suspected hit on 2 October 2015. He and his business associate Mpho Baloyi returned from Johannesburg when they were gunned down at the Garsfontein off-ramp in Pretoria.

Bozwana died, and Baloyi was injured.

That's nothing.

The Citizen reported on 18 September 2018 that Sibusiso Mavuka had spent ten years in prison without being convicted of any crime. He appeared in court 91 times before he gave up trying to keep track of his appearances.
Legalbrief reported on 19 October 2020 that Sibusiso Mavuka was still in prison.

I cannot find any further information on this case and nobody seems to care.
