The problem is basically because everyone and his dog is downloading stuff and using their last cap before the reset at midnight tonight. Telkoms network can simply not handle all the traffic and therefore you receive a higher latency. The speed should be the same, with dips now and again, but in general its just a response slowdown due to the major amount of traffic flowing in and out of the country.

Ping a local site and then international, you should notice the difference (compared to their usual figures)

I knew the network was weak but that's just plain stupid. You'd think that they'de be able to notice it and upgrade it sometime. O no I forgot that would only cost them money and they can't go spending money on something that will bring in more money at a later stage. O well, guess I'll have to wait till 12 to get my speed back :/

The problems, if you are a SAIX user (I.S also have similar problems but not talking about them now) is mostly caused by link failures and maintenance, however mostly the link failures.

http://noticeboard.saix.net will help you out to spot those, however sadly the last day of month thing is caused by the network overload.
