Australians have reacted angrily to news that tennis player Novak Djokovic will play in the Australian Open, after he was exempted from vaccination rules.

All players and staff at the tournament must be vaccinated or have an exemption granted by an expert independent panel.

Organisers said the defending champion had not been given special treatment.

But Australians - some of whom still cannot travel interstate or globally - have criticised officials, politicians and Djokovic himself.

Seeing as Djoko appears to be a run of the mill anti vaxxer, what medical exemption would he have qualified for,,?

His exemption is that he is the world #1 lol. It's a joke.

Meanwhile, a vaxxed Russian tennis player can't travel to Aus:

I didn't even know unvaxxed people can get on planes and travel the world these days. Interesting.

Gonna watch his matches to hear all the boos haha. Australians are pissed the way they've been treated by their government, but then in comes this happily unvaxxed dude and the government looks the other way :D

Well done to Novak. He stuck to his principles despite immense pressure to comply. I suppose he has faced far worse as a boy in the 1990's when Bill Clinton had NATO warplanes bomb Serbian civilians.

Al Jazeera were speculating that he had Covid within the last 30 days. That would disqualify him from being vaccinated. However that excuse only works once...

He's a d1ck most of the time. From his childish days of imitating people (irritatingly), to this. Shows what money can do for you.

Aussies should simply boycott all his matches really. THAT would send the right message.

In the meantime, Daniel Ricciardo had to quarantine in a hotel room for 14 days upon returning back to Australia. Watch as the Omicron cases in Australia go up ten fold, not, because of one tennis player, but because the authorities have become clueless in the handling of the pandemic. Across the pond, expect NZ to stay closed for another 2 years until the next super variant.
