OK, I may be out of line posting this here, as I'm actually using Virgin Mobile and not Vodacom of late, but the problem I suspect lies with a Vodacom data card... (Novatel Merlin U740) - And anyway I think more datacard users visit this "sub forum" than the CellC/Virgin one
It's lately been "freezing" on occasion.. the data just stops flowing - either up or down..
What makes me believe the card is guilty is the fact that when this happens, I disconnect (as in cancel the "dialup") and the LED remains steadily lit.. (when disconnected it's meant to pulse). Once in this state any attempts to reconnect simply fail, the dialer program never gets further than "initiliasing modem". To correct the problem I need to pyhsically eject the card and then re-insert it.
In fairness, I never experienced this problem when using the card with a Vodacom or MTN simcard... HOWEVER I recently updated the firmware and thereafter never used it with either a Vodacom or MTN sim for more than a few minutes - not long enough to accurately point the problem at Virgin Mobile. (I don't entirely exclude that possibility though).
Has anyone else experienced any similar problems with this datacard - after applying the firmware upgrade?
