I know this is a funny request but will the old firmware be available on request. I'll prob have to go flash my buddy's card but would like the option to revert.

Thanx

I've not tried this specific upgrade, but it's normally an exe you run, with the sim removed and the dash closed.

Some of the previous upgrades took quite a while and I know of one card where the person stopped the upgrade before it completed (it did say it'll take 15 minutes but he was impatient) and trashed the card.

I always upgrade as soon as possible (there are normally good reasons new firmware comes out) and have had no problems.

There are several steps to take when updating the firmware on a data card - they need to be followed very carefully otherwise you risk trashing your data card:

Here is a thread with some guidelines to doing firmware upgrades:

I downloaded this update a few days ago from Vodacoms website...

One of the cool things it fixes is the led colours... so you can now see if you're on GPRS or EDGE etc..

My only complaint is the fact that you have to have Windows to run the update :(

Go to Safely remove hardware icon on the task bar and look for "NEC PCI to USB open host controller"

There will be two of the same entries, click on anyone and wait for the safe removal response. You will have to shut down the Dash first, otherwise the software will not realease the card.

I downloaded the firmware upgrade today using my U740 card (unbranded Novatel U740 card). I followed exactly the process as described on the website and after about 25 minutes got the message that the upgrade could not be completed. The card is no longer working and just display a pink/purple light that stay on.

The VMC software does not see the card any more and after some time I got the message Sim Card error. The card however is OK since I used it again (and now) in my Huawei E620 card.

I called 155 and was told to take the card to Vodacare at Vodaworld. I did that and must wait for 2 days for the new card.

V3G - did this happen to anybody else and will the replacement card that Vodacom will supply be upgraded? I just hope that the new card is not network locked as I do travel a lot and will be using the card in Brazil in two weeks and in second part of August in Holland and England. I normally use local sim cards in these countries as the roaming costs are just totally unreasonable.

I know it's been nearly a month since this was released, kind of forgot :( to do the upgrade ...

Anyways, done tonight. Nice to see the LED's working properly.

Is it just me or is the card / connections more stable now? I have been connected for over 2 hours without ANY speed degradation, discons, whatever :D

Hopefully ...

Update:

Now connected for 5 hrs 39 minutes SOLID. :D

From NetMeter:

Upload: 6.00 Mb
Download: 89.15 Mb
Peak Upload: 47.1 KByte/s
Peak Download: 106.4 KByte/s

And I have moved downstairs (my weak signal location, 1 bar on the meter, normally have to use the supplied antenna just get any work done - not the case now with the new firmware) about two hours ago, wish I had done this 3 weeks ago!

Thanks Vodacom, you have just restored my faith ;)
