Japan confirms first case of person being reinfected with COVID-19

The case has health experts worrying that the illness could remain dormant after an apparent recovery.

Japan has reported its first case of a person becoming reinfected with the coronavirus after appearing to have fully recovered.

Officials in Osaka confirmed that a woman who works as a tour bus guide had tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time, further heightening concerns about the spread of the infection in the country.

There are now 189 confirmed cases of the flu-like illness in Japan, excluding the 639 on the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was docked for two weeks at Yokohama, and a third death was reported on Wednesday.

While there have been a number of cases of reinfection in China, notably in Wuhan province where the coronavirus outbreak originated late last year, second positive tests have not been reported elsewhere in the world.

The woman in Osaka, western Japan, who is in her 40s, tested positive on Wednesday after developing a sore throat and chest pains.

She was first diagnosed with COVID-19 in late January and was discharged from hospital on 1 February, and her reinfection has health experts worrying that the illness could remain dormant after an apparent recovery.

Is vitamin C any good if taken orally or does it need to be intravenous to be effective?

I meant that the vast majority of the population lives in one single region. Something like 80% of the population lives in one single region of the country

Probably it's a placebo like med-lemon
Nope, no placebo. It works better than most synthetic meds and it does not make you want to semi-sleep. The trick is to start taking it early. I have not had problems with either cold or flu since I discovered it..... I doubt a placebo could be THAT effective.

First time I tried it was an experiment to see what would happen, I had no expectations.

Erm maybe not the best idea

Government readies to repatriate South Africans from Wuhan

The South African government has reportedly initiated the process of repatriating some of its citizens who have been stuck in the coronavirus-hit city of Wuhan, China.

As reported by Mail & Guardian, following significant deliberations, the South African government has decided to take action in repatriating some of its citizens stuck in the coronavirus-hit Wuhan city.

The reports have yet to be confirmed by the government. However, sources close to the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security cluster claim that an agreement has been reached between Police Minister Bheki Cele, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola and Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, to repatriate South Africans for the Hubei province.

Currently, there are about 199 South Africans who are stuck in Wuhan. According to the cited publication authored by Thanduxolo Jika, only 132 have asked to be evacuated, while 13 have chosen not to leave.

The government is apparently still trying to track the remaining 54 people believed to be from South Africa. Speaking in an interview with eNCA, Jika revealed that the plan is to return the South Africans to the country and send them to a quarantine site believed to be in the Free State.

“A facility has been identified even though the confidential reports don’t say which place they’ll be quarantined at. South African National Defence Force officials had gone to Thaba Nchu to inspect the place for purposes of quarantine,” Jika

The government has yet to issue a statement on the validity of these reports.

“SA doesn’t have capacity to manage quarantine sites”

Fears have mounted within the healthcare sector of South Africa, with many experts claiming that the country does not have the capacity to deal with a coronavirus outbreak.

Angelique Coetzee, Chairperson of the South African Medical Association (SAMA), warned that South Africa does not have the means to run quarantine sites.
“The important quarantine is self-quarantine. It costs less to quarantine people in their specific surrounding rather than a large number on a ship or coming with a flight,” she indicated.
So far, South Africa has managed to keep the virus outside of our borders. For how long, is the question that remains unanswered.

Pilots will have to fly sans PPE suits, then land, then go to the loo etc, then suit up etc, load pax, fly back...

...nah, good luck with that.

Oh, wait, SAA's got a couple of planes, use one and scrap it afterwardssell it to a cadre for cheap-cheap afterwards....

Errrrrrrr

Should someone perhaps ask the health minister?

(Not that I have any faith whatsoever in said minister - but at least to tick the box?)

Safer to stay in china where can get treatment if you need it... when it hits here, no such luck, already isn't room in hospitals, adding 1000's is going to be interesting to watch;)

Okay, maybe shut the borders with Italy? Probably too late anyway.

Israeli diagnosed with virus after Italy trip; visitors from there to be barred

As first case in Israel outside of quarantine confirmed, interior minister says he will add Italy to list of countries from which travel is blocked.
The Health Ministry said Thursday that an Israeli man who returned from Italy has tested positive for COVID-19, the first case in which an infection has been diagnosed in the country outside of a hospital quarantine, raising fears he may have infected others.

At a press conference, ministry director Moshe Bar Siman Tov said the man had returned from Italy four days ago and felt ill.

Bar Siman Tov added that following the diagnosis, anyone in Israel who has been to Italy in the last 14 days must quarantine themselves.

You're aware you can't cure the cold or the flu right? It's a virus, you're body either fights it and wins or it loses and you die. There is no cure for it, all you can do is make yourself comfortable while you've got it, which is what the medicine does.
Vitamin C doesn't work, it's a placebo, even intravenously it won't work. The only thing that could technically work is ARVs, but that's too keep the virus at bay or guard against infection.

A 23-year old female futsal (indoor football) player has died in Iran. This follows the death of a 25-year old female nurse earlier in the week.

The futsal player fell ill 10 days ago. In the case of the nurse, cause of death was given as regular flu but nobody is buying it.
