Having eventually grown tired cracks, hacks, increased risk of malware etc. I decided to rather just come clean and install legal software and remove anything that was cracked.

1) I took the Windows 7 Ultimate make it genuine deal, cost about R1500 for a full Windows 7 Ultimate license, reinstalled the OS on my machine at least it is legal now. No more risk of updates damaging the activation etc.

2) I installed my legal copy of Windows Vista Home Premium on my other PC.

3) Going to install Windows XP Pro on my laptop as I actually have a license to use it.

4) I purchased Panda Internet Security 3 pack licenses for all of my PC's.

5) Now going to install Office 2010 Beta, which means I have until October to get genuine Office, I need Office on my machines as I have an Exchange Server at work.

Ok just wanted to share.

Mine too

Downloaded ubuntu 9.10 ( about R9,50 in bandwidth with afrihost 2 for 1 special)
It comes with an office suite, so R0 for that
Installed mysql - ( about R1,50 for bandwidth )
Installed netbeans ide ( another R2 for bandwidth )

R13 in total.

About 1200 times cheaper than Windows 7 alone.

No it is not, however a lot of my software is either free or open source.

Mine too

Downloaded ubuntu 9.10 ( about R9,50 in bandwidth with afrihost 2 for 1 special)

Well I would have done the same but since my work network is 100% Windows based, I need to have 100% compatibility from home. I am not going to spend hours just to setup a Linux Box. Although I do personally love Linux this case it was not an option.

Out of interest, Where did you get this?

If you attempt to run genuine advantage and it fails, it redirects you to a site to solve it genuine.

He likes open source so I'm guessing the rest is legit too. e.g. Gimp, Firefox etc

Nice. Aiming to get there too...bit difficult though while studying & not earning. One question though: Panda security wtf?

Quite right, I know I couldn't actually afford it but with work (blah blah etc).

Panda I know but the other day at work I needed to use a trial version to clean away a nasty virus, was the only product that could get rid of it. Went up in my books in all honesty.

Fanboi's this isn't a Windows vs Linux thread. Some people actually need to use Windows because of WORK!

Wow, R1500 for Win7 Ultimate. That's not bad at all. So basically all I have to do is download the cracked ISO then wait for MS Update to pick up it's dodge and then I can buy the OS cheap? So basically short-term piracy can save me about R1K :D

That is exactly what I thought! Amazing isn't it, if you go genuine from the beginning it costs you more than to admit it is fake. Ha I got Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Full Edition (No upgrade or that rubbish) for the same price people pay for Pro in the stores. The license gets emailed to you and in 3 weeks the physical media will arrive in the post. What a bargain.

Well it looks like I might finally be getting Windows 7. I always maintained that I wouldn't pay more than R1000 for Pro or R1500 for Ultimate. Thanks to piracy, I actually get to pay a fair price for a legal Microsoft product.

All the OS on the 7 PC/notebooks in my home are genuine (most are XP Pro). I won a 10-licence version at a MS Expo!!!!! Bought 3x MS Office 2003 via a work partner agreement for around R160 each....

Yes, it is not a debate. But the thread is about using GENUINE software, not about using Windows or Linux.
Since the thread is talking about GENUINE software, and since Linux is GENUINE even if not paid for, then my post was OnTopic.

And, for the record, I only use Linux at WORK. Saying you cannot work with using Windows is a false statement.
