Meh ol' Floyd still hasn't been prosecuted for the journalist he assaulted so don't expect much.

I hope they prosecute to convict, and not just to create hype. Even a suspended sentence is fine, as long as it starts somewhere.

Who did they assault?

Lol seems there's another incident where a female police officer was also assaulted at winnie mandelas funeral. Dunno which incident the charges relate to.

A conviction will mean he can't stand as an MP I believe.
surely half the ANC comrades wont be in parlement then?

Without doing any research I think its only if you declare insolvency you cant stand as an MP

Malema will just use the money his second in command stole to make this quietly go away.
Maybe he can bat if off but there's not way he'll do so quietly. The NPA have unfortunately been rather inept in the past

I think the key word is 'convicted'...

...as chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng began the proceedings by citing a constitutional requirement that prohibits a convicted criminal from becoming an MP. Mogoeng, without naming names, cited section 106 of the constitution, which prohibits those who have been convicted of an offence and sentenced to more than a year in prison without the option of a fine from becoming MPs. But the provision is applicable only from the time the constitution took effect. And a disqualification ends five years after the sentence has been completed.
