He's not scared; just gaming the system, knowing there is no will amongst his ANC chums to actually prosecute him. A mini Zuma.

'People at grave sites are emotional,' Malema tells supporters outside court

EFF leader Julius Malema said the cop who accused him and MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi of assault should have been guided by the spirit of ubuntu.

Malema and Ndlozi have been accused of pushing the officer at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s funeral.

“Police must be pushed because half the time they enter difficult areas even where people are emotional at times. Some are irrational. They don’t think properly,” Malema said.

He was speaking to his supporters outside the Randburg magistrate’s court where he and Ndlozi each face a charge of common assault.

Verbal slur and assault: Police colonel on EFF duo's conduct at Madikizela-Mandela funeral

Police officer Johannes Jacobus Venter has told the Randburg magistrate's court that EFF leader Julius Malema and EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi pushed him so hard that he lost his balance.

Malema and Ndlozi are standing trial on a charge of common assault.

They are accused of assaulting the police colonel in 2018 at the funeral of struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in Fourways.

They are both out on warning.

On Wednesday, Venter said he was responsible for protecting the president, former presidents and ministers at Madikizela-Mandela's burial.

He said they were instructed to only allow immediate family members and the president at the cemetery. He said they were told the rest of the mourners would remain at the stadium, where funeral proceedings would be streamed via satellite TV.

Zindzi Mandela 'confirmed Malema could enter Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's gravesite', court told

According to advocate Laurence Hodes, counsel for Malema and EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, Zindzi had written a statement in which she said Malema had been given permission to go to the cemetery.

Malema and Ndlozi are standing trial for common assault. They are accused of assaulting Lt-Col Johannes Jacobus Venter in 2018 at the funeral of struggle stalwart Madikizela-Mandela in Fourways. They are both out on warning.

Venter earlier told the court that Malema and Ndlozi were not part of a convoy that was allowed into the cemetery where Madikizela-Mandela was laid to rest.

He said at the time he was responsible for protecting the president, former presidents and ministers who were the only people allowed at Madikizela-Mandela's burial site.

Going by my memory the only other person who took a stage with him to court was Jacob Zuma. It is probably the same truck :giggle:

It is a shame, Malema's and Ndlozi's legal reps are playing the race angle, and then the race narrative was pushed on stage. I don't think it is right that public perception must be politicised when many courts in SA make their decisions based on public opinion, again, thanks to our racial climate.

This also happened in Senekal by the same people.

Malenema is one of the biggest terrorists and hypocrites out there. His speeches and incitement of violence has caused DEATHS and suffering to thousands, if not more people. His hypocritical stance on whites and indians are laughable - he has many White and Indian associates and "friends" who support him financially to a mutual benefit.

This is the same man who said that Indians must go back to India, Indians are racist and that we hate blacks. He incited farm murders with his fiascos, speeches and tweets. He was never charged for any of this because he is black, and a popular "leader". He is downright racist and his greed for money and power is evident.

...

It's not clear if the man named Wiko is allowed to sit in that area near the dock. He left that seat but did return to it when proceedings resumed.

...

The man's full name is Wico Swanepoel. It was claimed he was blocking the way for #Malema and #Ndlozi to make their way to the dock.

The EFF is a special bunch. Odd, that how they approached this person named Wico, in court, similar to the particulars this hearing is about.

Cancelling Grootes by labelling him a racist, isn't that against the law nowadays?

To quote the reply to that Tweet,

Yeah yeah, you can accept his apology for his mistake. He did not wrong you, the people he wronged don't accept the apology and you have no right to tell the victims of the mistake how to react. You are welcome to be a racist apologiest but not at the expense of EFF leaders, the word murder can't just come out of nowhere... Its a serious accusation.

people...

If the EFF isn’t accusing you of racism, you’re not doing your job properly.

Shame man, Twitter is throwing Grootes under the bus,

I must say, the EFF was clever to get their supporters onto Twitter. They bascially have a always available public referendum at their disposal (something of which even the likes of Zuma is following suit).

If they want to get a messege out there, all they have to do is Tweet, feed it a bit of artificial support and then Malema's your uncle.

Well it's sort of half half on the twitter thing... But it's hilarious to see the standard responses though.

Will that ever translate to votes? In my view, most South Africans can’t read.

Not necessarily, but it is for the purpose of public discourse. If you want to push an idea or ideal, you need that decision to be in the ownership of the people.

I mean, they are making a racist out of Grootes for a non-racial mistake. Things like this may get entrenched into our society which is dangerous for the sake of unity.

For all means and purposes, the EFF is weaponising this case against them.

On that point, I think people take Twitter too serious, I personally find it to be a great source of entertainment more that anything.

Yes, and the EFF knows this.

Twitter is a strong medium to convey a message in public. It has phenomenal reach by leveraging hashtags. Apply it to our own political landscape, the DA's social media numbers don't come to close to the EFF's.

Yes, paid Tweets, bots, all to spur on real public sentiment.

People are gullible because they are curious beings. Plant the 'right' message and they will talk about it.

Bell Pottinger made our politicians the ever more wise, money well spent. Sadly.
