What I'm saying is that it was already a race issue...it's not the minister making it into one

Get a grip on life as it is please. It is a Project Management issue and people are seeing there is a lack of it or transparency thereof. We want reports and that is it.

So obviously based on that little trivia, isn't it easy to assume that any large global event hosted by a BLACK majority [instead of white in the case of rugby/cricket in the past] would make alot of people nervous??
Wasn't it this same Government that hosted Cricket and Rugby world cups?

Wasn't it this same Government that hosted Cricket and Rugby world cups?

Totally different, the stadiums+infrastructure were ready and could handle the size of the events. I'd say most of the organisational work was done by the respective unions [SARU etc] and not the government [and i recall both unions being very white at those times...] .
The government also never saw those events as events to hinge their entire economical policies and decisions on. It came, it happened and it went....

Now with 2010, it's political, it's racial, it's economical , it's social [crime will mysteriously disappear in 2010] , it's even the event to save the country from all things bad! [and all kinds of other magical miracle things that will occur once all the cities have been renamed just in time to confuse the hell out of tourists]. It's like the govt. see THIS event as THE event to show to the world how successful they can run a country......

The govt. is doing it to themselves they want to look good and take the praise if things go well, but don't want to take the blame if it fails...

PS if we really want to get dirty with this, the 1995 Rugby World Cup was still during the time where most systems were "up and running" [i.e. healthy police force , healthy medical systems etc etc]....the ANC shut down these "apartheid" systems slowly over the years [i.e. removing whites in "managerial positions" and shutting down colleges/training centres and simply stopping to manage things ]...and now we have a "managerial" crisis...who's fault is that?

Most concerning of all is Minister Nqakula questioning his blackness. Is it because I'm black? And not only is he questioning fellow south africans but the world at large: is it because we're black?

He/they/the government just don't get it: you could be purple with pink spots it doesn't matter just please deliver this thing, except this thing is tied into so many other things that they should have been working on/solving in their 12 years of power//instead of billions missing, no infrastructure development, a system steadily degenerating because doctors, nurses, professional people of all kinds are leaving (or have left.) Why? Because they fear for their safety and future. But we did a study in 05.

"In 2005 we did a study. " (Crime is dropping.) Oh, so you mean it was higher before but only now you you choose to do a study? And that one little thing is endemic of the whole country: 4 to 5 years too late. Why only now?

Is the ministers self-esteem so low that he has to question his blackness? Don't they get it? We are not questioning his blackness we are questioning his capability to deliver. We are sceptical because the country now is not the same country when this tournament was awarded. Then we were working towards a bright future together. Now, we're not sure of the future and to all intents no one is working. Can you wonder we are concerned. But no, it must be because I'm black.

None of the trolls on this forum seem to comprehend how big this thing is. 2 million tourists visited Germany during the world cup. Hundreds of thousands of tourists wandering our streets like they do anywhere in the world. If the attrition rate is the same on tourists in 2010 as it is on the local citizenry circa 2006 then that will be a great tragedy. For these things we are concerned. Nothing to do with being black except the track record which could apply to any useless government anywhere. Ooh but no, I'm black, that must be the reason.

:eek: don't bother to do your job - which happens to be protecting citizens and non-citizens alike from not only crimes common in SA, but also terrorism as well.

This guavamint just doesn't seem to be grasping the scale of a Soccer World Cup event: guavamint seems to be thinking along the lines of a few normal soccer matches held in Orlando Stadium 20 years ago.

WC2010 is much much much bigger than anything SA has hosted so far, and requires people that aren't going to throw a hissy-racial-fit whenever their ability to do their job is questioned, but whatever floats Nqakula's boat - it still won't change the fact that he has not yet woken up and smelt the proverbial stuff hitting a ventilation device.

You sure do put out some very cogent thoughts sometimes. ;)

This gem has to be one of your best yet. Very good. It really does sum up the current situation in SA.

Another possible glitch with WC2010 is that it would seem that the $ signs are already in peoples eyes, senior puble servants (eg Comm for Correctional Services even though he's be arrested for DUI) resigning for WC jobs and additional money. It would appear general feeling is not how can I make this work but rather how much can I make. In this country the corruption that can come out of WC 2010 is still to be felt!

It goes even further.

The Gautrain project could also fall under the whole 2010 WC debacle since the project itself is linked to the 2010 WC. And now we see that two cabinet ministers and a deputy minister hold shares in consortium to build and operate the high-speed train. In addition, National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete also has shares in the consortium that is building the high-speed Gautrain.

Other high-profile beneficiaries of the Gautrain tender include:
- Mavivi Myakayaka-Manzini, ANC head of international affairs;
- Businessman Tokyo Sexwale;
- Malose Kekana, chief executive of the Umsobomvu Youth Fund;
- Wiseman Nkuhlu, former special economic adviser to President Thabo Mbeki;
- Nolitha Fakude, an executive director at Sasol;
- Bheki Sibiya, chief executive of Business Unity SA; and
- Danisa Baloyi, a prominent businesswoman.
Sexwale’s Mvelaphanda Holdings is involved in Gautrain through transport company Unitrans, which has been awarded a multimillion- rand contract to provide bus feeder services for the railway.
Kekana, Nkuhlu, Fakude and Sibiya are shareholders in BMFI, while Baloyi is linked to TSM Enterprises, another Bombela partner.
Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa announced Bombela as the preferred bidder for Gautrain in July last year.

They don't call it the Gravy Train for nothing.:sick:

actually it has nothing to do with race but rather the safety of tourists who come to watch the 2010. All negative reports have been about crime and the goverments unwillingness to sort it out or doing nothing about it.

The Minister of Safety and Security, who is incompetent and a mere criminal himself, cant do anything else anymore so he pulls out what most africans know how to do when backed in the corner with the oh so tired line of:

Its because we're black isn't it.

But i suspected you would miss that BIG nugget of information which has been the main contention of foreigners and citizens in this country, because i have noticed you have little perception or depth when it comes to thought.

He is making it into a race issue? Dominic don't make me laugh, he's just making an observation that some of us had already made even here in the forum. He's just telling it like it is like many black people, the only difference is that he is a minister.

Here we go again....

It's amazing how you ALWAYS defend *the current* government no matter what. You ALWAYS have something bad to say about the previous one but it's real funny how you continiously find NO fault in ANYTHING the present government does, across the entire spectrum.

You always have an answer for EVERYTHING and can NEVER admit to something done wrong by the government....

It's really a shame to think that there are voters out there who are like you. It's ripping this country to shreads.

Your the poster boy for why we still have racism in this country..... Don't think an education and friends in high places gives you respect or brains....
