Dear Community,

I am reaching out with a sense of urgency and frustration regarding an issue I'm facing with Vodacom, and I hope someone here might be able to offer some insight or assistance.

On the 22nd of March, my number, which I've had with Vodacom for 16 years, was suddenly deleted from the network. This number has been an integral part of my life, particularly for my business, and the sudden loss of connectivity has been devastating.

Around 11 years ago, I transitioned from a contract to a prepaid plan with Vodacom, and since then, this number has been my primary point of contact for both personal and professional matters. Despite this long-standing relationship, when I visited a Vodacom store to inquire about the issue, they couldn't even locate my number on their system. Even after reaching out to customer care, we were unable to resolve the issue.

To provide context, I had recently purchased a 1 GB of data on the 12th of March and R110 airtime on the 14th of March, indicating that the number was active and in use leading up to its sudden deletion.

I am deeply concerned about the impact this is having on my business operations. Not only are my customers unable to reach me through my longstanding number, but I am also facing difficulties accessing critical services. All my One Time Passwords are sent to this number, making it impossible for me to access internet banking and make payments.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or has any advice on how to escalate this matter with Vodacom, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. My livelihood depends on restoring connectivity as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

I had a similar issue with MTN. The only solution is to complain to the CGSO, but it will take some time. My issue was resolved in around 5 weeks.

Hi there. Please send me your contact details in a direct message. Vodacom has reached out and would like to assist directly.

Damn - I'd be pissed, had my number for over 20 years. (its also prepaid at Vodacom because as I discovered in November, I don't earn enough for a R329 contract  )

Clearly this is what happens when you double-cross any Vodacom representative, especially @Ockie!
I go one step further. I blacklist your phone too for good measure.

Seriously though.....this seems to have been a error as recharges counts towards activity on the number. It should therefore not have been deleted. Must be escalated to CSOC

Yeah, but he only recharged with a measly R110.

So, whenever someone is going to be a real cheapskate, Vodacom might initiate scare tactics.

That gets the message across, oftentimes.

Because of the implication.

had my number with MTN for more than 15 years, when I wanted to get it back after it was stolen, had to jump through so many hoops to get anything, sim swaps did nothing, call center beyond useless,

what I come to realize is were just a number with nothing behind it to these companies,

While on this topic:

How many mobile numbers have you had? / What was your longest period of having the same number?

I got my number the day before Vodacom launched (did not work for them at the time), and I still have it, 30 years on the same number. :)

I have had a few numbers. Current one for +-15 years with MTN.

Prior to that a custom number (that spelled my name) from Virgin Mobile when they launched, but lost that number over time. After I got sick of Cell C's poor network. Can't even remember why I never just kept it and ported.

And then a few other random throw aways you get when you buy a spare phone prepaid.

My number was activated the day Vodacom launched. Only ever had that number.

Bit behind you going on 20 years same number, on vodacom with a brief 2 years port on mtn but rest of time on Vodacom.
