Number Deleted from Vodacom Network After 16 Years

With most people using WhatsApp and Telegram and Google Meet calls these days, one of the main means to authenticate prepaid users have become redundant. That is to input last 5 numbers dialed. Those have to be via convential calling....not through a app. Only other way to authenticate is via original PIN an PUK number of the sim that was lost. Keep the card holder that your sim comes with safe. You can hand it to the store and they will use that to authenticate you.

Why can you simply not just authenticate with your ID? I mean there is no clearer proof than that.

I hope this works, Ockie.

As stated, my number is used since 1998 and I have not called people in more than a year or two. Use WhatsApp full-time.

I know a few people who've lost their prepaid numbers when their phone was stolen and they were unable to answer the security questions correctly when trying to do a sim swop. Not even going in person to the network provider's physical shops with their ID was able to solve the problem.
Last time my phone was stolen and I needed to do a sim swap I almost couldn't answer the security questions.
If anyone asked me right now I would have no idea what the last numbers I called were, they are often random businesses or people so I have no clue what the number would be.

Yeah, this is what scares me. I've been an MTN prepaid customer for years now, but 99% of my calls are through Whatsapp and I hardly ever buy airtime, only data bundles. My biggest fear is losing my cellphone number if my phone was stolen because I definitely wouldn't be able to answer the security questions.

I always just assumed you could walk into your nearest MTN shop with your ID and sort it out, but from what I've heard you cannot. If you can't answer the security questions then that's it, you're screwed. Doesn't matter how many forms of ID you can produce.

Because with prepaid numbers we cant actually see your ID number on the system. Yes, it might be RICA'd with your ID number, but Vodacom business partners and stores dont have visibility on the RICA details. It is a secured data base.

So what do we need to make sure we have a record of in case our prepaid sim is lost or stolen? Can we only verify based on recent calls?

That or original PIN and PUK of sim that was lost. Potentially also with date and amount last recharged (if the store is feeling generous).

Yep, I read that. For all the things Telkom has done, their Mobile department is doing many things right LOL

Only picked this up now, I'll drop you a DM now so you have my contact number in case it does not get resolved urgently.
Hi Jannie, my cell phone number of over 30 years was deleted by Vodacom, and i went to Vodaworld and they told me they cant help me. The number was not recycled, when you call it it says "number does not exist". What options do I have?

NOT the update we were looking for ... but this saga needs to enter the national news now - or even international news, since Vodafone is thinking of buying Vodacom.

Dear Community,

I am reaching out with a sense of urgency and frustration regarding an issue I'm facing with Vodacom, and I hope someone here might be able to offer some insight or assistance.

On the 22nd of March, my number, which I've had with Vodacom for 16 years, was suddenly deleted from the network. This number has been an integral part of my life, particularly for my business, and the sudden loss of connectivity has been devastating.

Around 11 years ago, I transitioned from a contract to a prepaid plan with Vodacom, and since then, this number has been my primary point of contact for both personal and professional matters. Despite this long-standing relationship, when I visited a Vodacom store to inquire about the issue, they couldn't even locate my number on their system. Even after reaching out to customer care, we were unable to resolve the issue.

To provide context, I had recently purchased a 1 GB of data on the 12th of March and R110 airtime on the 14th of March, indicating that the number was active and in use leading up to its sudden deletion.

I am deeply concerned about the impact this is having on my business operations. Not only are my customers unable to reach me through my longstanding number, but I am also facing difficulties accessing critical services. All my One Time Passwords are sent to this number, making it impossible for me to access internet banking and make payments.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or has any advice on how to escalate this matter with Vodacom, I would greatly appreciate your guidance. My livelihood depends on restoring connectivity as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
Hi, did you manage to get your number back?

Complain to CSGO. It worked when MTN did this to me. Call centre also said they couldn't do anything.
