As there doesn't seem to be a satisfying way to use a Vodacom prepaid SIM overseas for extended times (roaming isn't affordable enough, Voice over Wifi doesn't seem to work), I consider switching to CellC who seems to have it all: eSim and VoWifi are available :)

I just wonder, if the number transfer is possible straight to the eSim if I only as a friend to buy and send me the QR code in store or do I have to RICA it right in store? If not, how does the number swap work, coming from Vodacom?

Also: how is the voice quality using VoWIFI overseas on solid connections?

You will have to RICA in store as they consider it a new sim card

Normally you go through the number porting dance with your new sim RICA'ed but not plugged in,
once the old sim stops working then you plug in the ported sim

Only problem is if they dont have the sim card number on the esim packaging that you normally sms as part of the porting process

I will be doing the same thing as you when I leave next month, just need to do the eSim part (they never have stock in PE) Maybe ill do it quick in jhb before my flight

MOBILE NUMBER PORTING FOR PREPAID CUSTOMERS

5 steps to change your prepaid line:

1Buy a Cell C Starter Pack

2RICA your SIM

3SMS your new SIM serial number to 084 767 8287

4Two confirmation SMSs will be sent to your old SIM

5Wait for your old SIM to lose network service and then insert your new Cell C SIM and connect

Weird that Vodacom hasn't worked I been overseas for a good part of 3 years! I still can use voice over wifi and all I do is make a call every few weeks. I would only be tempted to move to Cell C for voice over wifi because the offer it with esim on pre paid

Are you on contract? They seem to only support free VoWiFi roaming/calls on contract, not prepaid.
