I am reaching the end pf my contract with MTN (just a couple of months to go) and if there is a launch of a new iPhone I want to go to Vodacom and keep my number, in other words I want to do number portability.
What is the procedure?

Go to the Service Provider of choice and they will process it. You need to have this done before your current contract expires. I ported from CellC to MTN and actually did 2 months before my contract expired, I was still liable for the remaining 2 months but it did not bother me.

Do not cancel your existing contract once you have ported as may be held liable for cancelation fees : ie Autopage will charge you about R5K to do this.

I am currently using MTN and Autopage cellular is my service provider, I have a contract with them at the moment and it expires in just over a month's time. I also want to port my number from MTN to Vodacom and the guy at vodashop told me to bring my ID, 3 month's bank statement and my latest Autopage cellular account so that they can port my number.

They guy at the vodashop is correct, also ensure to inform him that the port
Date should be the last day of your contract. You would need to ensure
That you providef notice to your existing provider in writing and
Confirm if they have received it and if they will authorize the port.

Do not port across even 1 day early cos you would be liable for a nasty
Cancellation fees as indicated above post.
