Update: Credit where it's due -- NVIDIA has dutifully put up an alert on its site advising users to roll back to the 196.21 driver while it investigates the root cause of the reported fan problems.

I just bloody upgraded to 196.75.. ffs... *mutter*

My next card in my HTPC will bloody be an ATI after all this Nvidia nonsense.. they still can't fix what is apparently a very simply HDMI audio signalling issue in their drivers.
