Nvidia slashing 2GB of memory from RTX 3050 — Report

Nvidia plans to replace its widely-panned RTX 3050 budget graphics card with an even weaker version that reduces its RAM by 2GB, Tom's Hardware reports.

The publication spotted a leak on the Chinese forum Board Channels, which revealed Nvidia planned to stop making the card with 8GB memory and switch to a 6GB variant.

Probably because you need at least 8GB for Stable Diffusion and AI models.

Why would they want to release previous gen cards still? The 40 series has been out a while now? (I don't follow the gpu scene that closely)

It's all about market share.
Intel does the same, derates its CPUs and sells them for lower prices. They would rather sell at a low / zero margin than lose the market share.
