Ok, so I found a device that apparently picks up OTA TV signals that people like DSTV have to by law broadcast. It all sounds a bit dodgy to me but if it is true and works it would be pretty cool.

I want to know if anyone else has heard of or used this device or is it BS?

Google says it is just a normal antenna with a 50km range that picks up local channels . Something to that effect. Just get an OpenviewHd decoder for R299(special) at Game or OK Furniture - should be a better investment.

Did some checking, and the catch - apparently - is that it can pick up those signals, but for paid channels, the signals are encrypted. So unless you have the broadcaster's decoder, you can't watch the channels.

I may be wrong, but that's what I read...i.e. it's a scam.

Its not a scam if if does what it says.It can pick up the signals, but it cant decode them without a hacked PVR(decoder!) of some kind.

I decided to invest the R300 odd and order this. Definitely a scam - it also has automated response saying your order was processed (I send from 3 email addresses unrelated to my order and the same message is send in response) and you can return it but have to pay shipping, taxes and a 15% restocking fee.

The order system also does not work, it fails but the money is deducted anyway, the bank account it is taken to also seems to be protected or something as I called FNB to reverse and they cannot find that or the route of the transaction.

Octa Air product itself seems to be scam on top of the way they make their promises!

Thanx for the confirmation regarding my suspicion on this. IF the situation does change in future, let us know. i.e. if you do receive the device, and it does work, please share it here?
