My outages have gone down to less than 5 per 24 hour period, all less than a minute long. I suppose i should be pleased, as this is an improvement on what it was.

Just keep lowering your expectations

I have the exact same issues, also glad to see that I am not the only one.

I am on Octotel/Afrihost in Wynberg and I experience short (10-30 seconds) dropouts about every 10 minutes. I think that I will take a page out of your book and start logging the outages and making some noise with Afrihost and Octotel.

It's unbelievably frustrating to have to switch to my mobile hotspot to game reliably in 2021.

They've been doing a ton of maintenance in the Harfield Village area, which appears to have helped people there somewhat. They seem to be completely ignoring the Kenilworth/Wynberg area though.

Cool Ideas tells me that they haven't seen any outages on my line for 5 days. Are they looking at the same line I am?

Guessing they're going by the lack of PPPoE session drops. The outages you're seeing are likely the usual Octotel complete loss of traffic while the PPPoE session stays up.

I am in the Harfield Village area and it still sucks for me.

How're you recording these timeout?

I'm in Claremont - also seeing disconnects but they seem to happen most often in the morning.
Run the free version of Pingplotter, when you install it it says free for 14 days, but runs as Free version indefinitely. You can run a trace to 196.25.1.1 and 1.1.1.1, then save the traces as images to a folder on your desktop.
I have been collecting a bunch for a while now. Would be great if everyone could do the same then we take these guys to task / hold them accountable.

But in Typical fashion ISP's will just point finger at each other or make the end user run countless tests, replace devices to buy time etc...

lol, no worries, its just been a frustrating few months or so.

I've been fighting with them for years. It's only recently I've managed to go without being disconnected regularly for minutes at a time no matter what I was doing. There's still an egregious amount of packet loss and shorter disconnections on my line, but it's somewhat usable now. I look forward to the day I can put Octotel in the rear view mirror.

Where to?

I'm double-provisioned with Ocotel + OpenServe options, Octotel were first so that's who I'm with.

Kinda loathe to go to Telkom though :(

Openserve in a heartbeat. Amazingly, they have one of the best and most stable fibre networks in the country.

Update:

Still no joy

I've been on this depressing rollercoaster from June 6 with NO results. Octotel is clearly not interested in helping the ISP or us. I've resorted to calling them directly and being annoying on social media to get any kind of movement/actual updates, and it has not helped. There is something fundamentally broken with their infrastructure and they are not willing to admit it or fix it.

My journey so far:

2 routers
3 ONT's
replaced mid point coupling
MIcrotik monitoring device connected to my router
static IP
moved my line to new point on the node
So many MTR, ping and tracert tests that I could kill you with the weight of them.
Over 100 emails to Cool Ideas.
Numerous promises from no less than 3 separate Octotel technicians at my residence, including the overconfident: "I'm the last person you'll need to talk to" guy, who now is not returning my calls.

All of this and here are today's list of outages:
03:45
16:58
16:59
19:04
19:05
19:06
19:44
20:36-20:40
21:15-21:19

Another new ONT, and I've apparently been transferred to a new port on the network.

Octotel will also be re-doing my line installation later today.

I've been running PP since 7am.

How do you get that export with summary?
