Hi ladies and gents in Hagley / Summerville Kuilsriver CPT, can you please pop over to Octotel's website, hit the coverage map and show interest.

Got feedback from Octotel representative a few hours ago:

"We do not require any specific number of sign ups in order to consider an area for future roll out. It really boils down to the cost-benefit aspect of deploying fibre in the area. But the more interest that is generated in an area, the sooner our network architects will map it out, do appraisal and if the results are positive submit the permit applications to council for the permission to build the network in the area."

I have already started doing some sign ups on behalf of some friends of mine living in Summerville so PM your details if you would like me to sign up on your behalf.

Here's to having Fibre as soon as possible.

So that's the thing - I contacted Vumatel because I know that they start taking things a bit more seriously when a percentage graph starts becoming relevant. The response from the lady there was that for the rest of the year they are fully booked and busy with deployments....based on existing planned areas. Any new areas that are currently not on the plan will be looked at (interest wise) from early next year again, from where they will rollout based on demand. So looks like Vuma is on hold for now, at least until early next year.

I've seen on DFA's map that we are lathered with beautiful fibre lines...........for business in the area. Haven't really inquired at SADV since I wasn't aware that they are coupled together.

Thanks for that info

so it doesn't look like Octotel is coming to the area. COMTEL was in Sunbird Park 2 weeks ago, setup a marquee and got some interest for WiFi and Fibre....for both the Sunbird Park and Hagley / Summerville areas. I showed interest for a crap load of friends who stays in Summerville with me so lets see how this goes.

While COMTEL was there an OPENSERVE van randomly came to stand there so the COMTEL oke told me that OS does that, ie they monitor what other providers are doing and then throw dirty tactics by simply overriding these providers, swoop in and install Fibre.

Either way.............I need and want Fibre asap

My advice; wait a year and go with Vuma. Octotel's infrastructure is horrible and there is absolutely no service - check some of the forums like the Cool Ideas one where you will see how everyone is complaining! Knowing what I know now, I would have rather waited a year (or more) for fiber than be stuck with these imbeciles for years to come!

I am in agreement with Sargeant regarding the horror stories at Octotel. Anycase I haven't heard anything of them coming to SBP / Hagley / Summerville.

If any provider were to come it would most likely be Vumatel or Comtel. No word from Vumatel yet on the areas mentioned above (I'm across the road from you in Hagley / Summerville).

The reason I mentioned Comtel is because one of their sales reps...Lives in SBP and actually had a stand there a few months ago regarding interest for Fibre and Fixed Wireless solutions.

The guy did mention that they would most likely only punt Fixed Wireless for now since that's the quicker option. But apparently when it then comes to laying FIbre in the area it would be alot quicker to get done in terms of admin, wayleaves etc etc.

So ya.......waiting in baited breathe for Infrastructure to come.

For now I'm happy with my very VERY stable 10Mb Wireless line via private WISP out in Milnerton. No issues thus far. Account soft-capped at 500GB's per month
