There you have it folks. In true typical South African style, they deny anything is wrong, so Octotel can go die in a fire!Octotel indicated that the backhaul to the Southern Suburbs is not congested, and running at 6 out of 10Gbps capacity over their own dark fibre infrastructure, and have indicated during a telecon last week that they will do everything they can to resolve the matter. I've also explained to them that since the Blouberg changes people such as Joeline have been working fine and the issues have been resolved, we have hundreds of other clients without issues and that thus the matter must reside on your portion of the network.
I am providing them with more stats and info from a Kenilworth client that shows exactly the same problem as you do during peak hours.
Other than that there's no concrete feedback as to resolution.
I've logged it with CISP and their CEO has escalated the Claremont issue to the CTO of Octotel who is apparently investigating. The most recent feedback is what artyloop quoted above. Apparently they've ruled out the backhaul and are now going to look into our area specifically.Does anyone have two fibre providers in the same area. Same address even? Can we compare Octotel to another provider?
Has anyone got any feedback from Octotel at all on this?
Nowhere.I've logged it with CISP and their CEO has escalated the Claremont issue to the CTO of Octotel who is apparently investigating. The most recent feedback is what artyloop quoted above. Apparently they've ruled out the backhaul and are now going to look into our area specifically.
How are you getting on with your ISP investigating this?
Well netflix is local so you're less likely to notice the packet loss.Nowhere.
My solution to date has been being assigned a static IP.
Not sure if that makes sense?
I assume that's at some cost to them, so it'd be in their interest to resolve the issue properly.
I'm on the bottom package, so maybe I don't notice the slowdowns as much. Netflix streams fine in HD.
I have had many tickets open. What CISP does is merge them into one.. crafty buggers.Well netflix is local so you're less likely to notice the packet loss.
Please tell me you've at least logged the issue with your ISP so they can put pressure on octotel from their side.
Yeah. We had the Octotel notice on our front gate of the complex a few weeks ago. I'm close to the vlei.Yeah unfortunately Frogfoot is only trenching main road side of the vlei. Nothing below the vlei !!!!
Any feedback from them?I've logged it with CISP and their CEO has escalated the Claremont issue to the CTO of Octotel who is apparently investigating.
How do you know that's not just the guesthouse's own account / router / wifi bandwidth being hammered by one or more selfish guests?I stayed at a guest house in Newlands this past week, and they're with RSAWeb on Octotel. The congestion after 5pm is so bad that I usually switched to mobile data. The line goes from 100Mbps to <1Mbps with 25-50% packet loss.
Second hop latency in trace routes was 1500-3500ms.
