Hey guys,

Octotel is in the process of trenching in my area - Wynbergy CPT.
I'm in their "phase 1 Wynberg" area, typically how long has Octotel taken to complete trenching and hook everything up?

My coverage area is here (not my actual address, simply showing the area). Octotel have already been around to my complex and installed two points running out to the street.

Can't wait to ditch this terrible ADSL.

Give it 3 months or so - depending on how far they are with the project... it's an eternal wait to get off ADSL, but well worth it when it DOES happen - all I can say (been through it twice) - is just to have patience...

May as well make this an update thread for those interested.
Afrihost seem to have gotten feedback from Octotel that Wynberg Phase 1 is pending until 1 January 2019.

I reckon Vumatel will beat them (if you live in the vicinity of that marker), apparently construction should start soon?

Octotel already got into the complex with two fibre boxes, not sure if Vumatel can join the party.

Seems like we're making some progress. Not sure if it's Octotel or Vumatel, but trenching seems to be underway around the edges of the coverage site.

You can normally tell by the colour of the fiber sheilding when the start putting it in

Ah, makes sense.
Seems blue/purple. Spotted it driving this afternoon, I'll go take a closer look tomorrow.

I was trying to work out the significance of this whilst walking past just now.

On the library side of Maynardville there are two, maybe three different colours of sleeving going into the trenches. There are two different shades of blue and a pinky-purple colour. Those cross over Piers road and seem to continue South.

However only the blue coloured sleeves seem to be coming up Piers road towards your marker.

There are a bunch of manholes in the parking lot outside PnP Wynberg that are unbranded.

Looks like blue conduit is being trenched near Maynardville going down Wellington Avenue.

Vuma are going door-to-door asking for contact details and leaving flyers (still trying to work out what "pakcages" are).

However this appeared today at the intersection of Piers & Mortimer:

And yet on the other side of the same intersection, there's a pink Vuma flyer lying on the road and more of the blue conduit.

Is it possible that Octotel and Vuma are doing a joint build?

Dobut it, Octotel just woke up now, when they realised that Vumatel are going to take their areas. there is a bit of an overlap. From what I can remember Octotel were the first to mark the area as planned.

Contractors have been quite busy in the area yesterday and today.
Looks like they're starting to run conduit in the sidewalk, going up Prospect Hill Road from the M41. They're about half way up to Bay View Road.

Is it possible to get both Vuma and Octo in the same complex? Choice is always great...

We have Octo in our complex (Malton Road). However, if Vuma can actually deliver service faster, I'm happy to go with them. They (Vuma) are asking to put fiber in our complex now. What should we say?

I just read through the land owner consent form for our complex, it doesn't make any note that additional termination points can be installed on the property.

There seems to be a lot more pink stuff than blue around the complex I'm in. I wonder if Vumatel can go live before Jan 2019 though, that still seems to be the date for Octotel.

There doesn't seem to be any mention of exclusivity either.

All Octotel has done is make a huge mess of Wynberg. When do we start to see any reinstatement of the pavements and driveways they dug up nearly a month ago?

Its uncommon for multiple fibre providers to trench in the same area, however have seen an increase in this trend over the past year.

We initially had 1 provider trenching, within 2 weeks of them completing we had Vumatel start their trenching. Now 4 months after they are completed we now have Openserv starting their trenching to get their aerial services in place.

So by end of the year there looks to be 3 fibre providers into 1 area alone. (Not CTN related, but seems to be a country wide trend of providers trying to expand their share)
