Odds of the MW service being fixed by end August?

Given how things have deteriorated over the last week since the "fixing" has begun I have my doubts ...

I give 3:1 against it being fixed by end August.

Not that I understand the tech issues well but just from reading between the lines and ST's stony silence.

Hey hArTh, look what happened when you Capeys prayed for rain.

At the moment, with 18 months still to go, I am saying a few prays that things improve, so maybe we will get a flood like you did:)

If you asked me to place a bet tho, I think I will pass. There is a bigger chance that gold will go to $3000/oz.

Tnx got ya mail dbnnet, could not reply as my smtp is not working for some reason.
Wierd, I speak to that fella quite often and never has he mentioned this magic potion.
Anyway I know he's a hardened MyAdsl Forum reader so hopefully he can fill me in on this magic potion that these "external guys" have created.
Wonder what bones they were using, hope its not the same ones they threw yesterday morning [:)]

Basically Pro, we've been "promised" that all issues will be resolved by end August .. if this is not the case I'm outta here.... And Sentech have even agreed to this...

btw, typing this on my WBS connection ... outside their official coverage and downloading at 42KB/s ... gotta looove it ... will be putting unit through a few tests over the next weeks.

nonroker,

given that I'm outside the official coverage at the moment I expected very bad pings etc ...

100 ping packets
0% lost
Lowest 45ms
average 109ms

This was to first hop - UUNET backbone .. things seem rock solid from there.

Will give more feedback after the weekend.

I was also told over the phone that they were going to have the speed problems resolved by end August. Now we hear that the only person in Sentech who seems to have any technical skills doesn't even know about this .. all I can say is, "uh-oh". What TF is going on there? Do they think their network is so uber-advanced that only (expensive) foreigners and not SAns would know how to debug/optimise it? And does their PR chief really think that this "stony silence" is the best approach to dealing with customers about the speed situation? *Sigh* .. their attitude stinks. Bring on iBurst ..

Now, tower upgrades seem to be in place....

Bandwidth management still seems fscked ... packet losses only occuring when their network is "working" (ie international access) tells me this ...

We've basically got a broken service that works and a working service that's broken ...

Maybe MySmokeSignal's tagline should read - When it works, it doesn't; When it's fast, it isn't

We need decent bw management and possibly(?) new firmware on the modems.

I've been in contact with IPW ppl in the UK, and according to them an IPW team is in the country at the moment, basically on a salvage mission to repair all the crap thats been going on with the network.

Ultimately I don't care WHO fixes it, as long as it gets FIXED! [:p]

BTW, ProASM what is your take on the cause(s) of this whole network issue?
Do you think its poor management (ie. open Proxies etc), crap equipment (IPW sucks?), over-subscription (too many ppl, not enough bandwidth) or bad infrastructure (backhauls unreliable or not enough capacity on network links)?

Or all of the above? [:p]
