Their lack of bandwidth is official ... and it seems Marketing handles bandwidth decisions - NOT technical ... what a SAD SAD SAD state of affairs.

So the PRIMARY part of the "BIG FIX" is the upgrade to v5 firmware on the towers ... but they don't release the client side of the firmware update ... true genius at play ....

Faaarrk ... this is enough already

Am I surprised they missed their origional deadline for 256K ... nope.
Will they make the 128/512K deadline ... hope so for their sake

Yeah.... but a little birdie (a management consultant) tells me that very soon
the "Marketing" people are about to be issued "little pink slips"........ many of them!
Sentech has initiated other plans (a new business model for MW) which are on the cards
that will now render almost all of them "redundant".
Marketing is to be told: "You're the Weakest Link - Goodbye!"

with the amount of bad press they have been getting it is supprising it took so long to get rid of them ...

the evidence of the big fix so far is leaning toward bad news for consumers ... cant wait for the shock we in for on the 1 when all will be revealed ... and us been screwed over been made official ...

i am not a pessimest but a experianced optimist please prove me wrong sentech

nope. I have no plans of cancelling. my speeds have been ok. but like the sig says, I have been downgraded to the new 64kbps package. Im waiting to see what RBM v1.1 will do to the service. Im totally anti any telkom connection so its sentech or the written method. it is still a lot cheaper than ADSL or ISDN for what I am getting.

well with the news of the SNO, I have heard some very intresting things.

1. ISP's may now run there own ADSL if the purchase a condensor etc, so you will now be able to get static IP's etc.

SO my guess is just wait to see what happens ?

Dean, yes.
IS and Storm have already informed their customers.
Both plan to be up and running before the end of the year.
IS will offer a choice of 3G, 6G, 9G and an uncapped solution etc. etc.
(The static ip pricing is still not yet available).

But beware, as you will still be using Telkom's infrastructure
and if you are using a congested port at your local exchange... you will still be slow.
In a nutshell it's basically their International component that the ISP's will be offering rather than through saix.

(Edit-This has nothing to do with the SNO-rather an agreement between Telkom and some select ISP's. It's similar to how IS has agreements with Transtel & Sentech using THEIR infrastructure to provide satellite solutions for IS's customers.
Also bear in mind that these solutions are going to be aimed at the Corporate sector - Small branch office etc. and not really for home users).

dbnnet can you elaborate further on this? Do IS and Storm have a special agreement with the SNO or something?

I know, were are looking at brining in our own condensors as well as modems, we are looking at packes that will start at 64k up to 512k with static IP addresses on diffrent ratios, we also are looking at not counting local traffic towards a cap etc.

However, here the problem, a typical condensor can only get up to 5km radius, therefore between condensors we would have to put lond haul lines in and given ADSL speeds were talking about 2-10mb lines ? now if you look at that cost, its huge, unless you run our own ADSL - ADSL vpns, but then you would need condensors every 5 km's

You dont need one, Telkom now has to allow you to run your own ADSL infrastructure, but you need your own equipment. see the above comment.

dean please elaborate further on exactly how this deal will work and also how it benefits consumers - will it be cheaper/faster etc?

To be honest we are still awaiting prcing etc, while I dont think that the ISP's will be able to offer faster packages, you will find that like in the UK, you will find that you get a selection of 50 diffrent options for a telephone company, like you my have to pay R 50 extra for an IP some people might want local unlimited and only 64k international. so were not sure yet, but I think it will cause a great stir in the market and we may see Telkom comming up with some new offering diffrent prices etc.

It doesn't help to get rid of marketing...the simple bureaucratic prats at the top must go...need people that knows something about the technology and the people using it...ProAsm for Sentech CEO...[;)]

Gathering from all that is said in this thread and forum there will be a mass exodus of clients after the 1st of Sept if things do not improve dramatically. It's a shame, I had some faith in this service specially since my service ran just fine for 2 months. The last 3 weeks have been agonising. The only thing I can suggest is that mywireless review their future thoroughly and restructure the services they offer as well as price. Introduce a range of options and speeds from capped to unlimited usage and price accordingly, the consumer can decide. Just don't lie to the public and consumer again...its a recurring theme throughout business in SA - promises followed by deception and lies. [V] Maybe I am just naive.
