As the SA venues were announced today, time for a thread.

Wanderers
Centurion
Newlands
Kingsmead
St. Georges
Boland Park
Manguang Oval
Buffalo park

How buffalo park got picked ahead of JB marks and willomore park is shocking.

Can only be political as the other venues are clearly the better facilities.

Zim only really has harrare & bulawayo . Namibia has the wanderers in Windhoek that has hosted ODI & T20 + the United cricket ground which hosted t20i.

East London needs the rain…

Hopefully they’ll take the opportunity to upgrade the lights at the ground, they’re shocking. Then again the lights at Wanderers are also pretty dismal so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I didn’t even know we were hosting. When was it announced?

Zimbabwean and Namibian cricket is pretty much dead but they hosting which means they'll get an automatic inclusion?
Or do they have to qualify as per the standard practise?

Just scrap Zim and add more SA venues like Willow Park.

Zim get auto qualification. Namibia have to qualify.

Just curious, why is that the case?

US got auto qualification for partnering on the T20 world cup...
No idea. Not found anything officially explaining. Some claim cause they aren't a full member but the US didn't need to qualify for this years T20 WC and they aren't either.

These decisions basically comes down to who the ICC board(aka BCCI) like. They scrapped the hosting process for world events. Its now only decided by the board, no official process.

Here is the qualification process. SA & Zim auto quality. Then the top 8 on the ICC ODI rankings at some cut off point also qualify.

Other 4 go through the long qualification route.

Millions to be spend by CSA upgrading stadiums.

CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki told the Sunday Times that the organisation will review the eight venues over the next fortnight, with the most pressing issue being the installation of LED lights.
Good - I don't think many people appreciate just how bad the lights are in some of these stadiums.

Wonder how the attendances will be considering that India struggled to get full houses for some games last year.

Probably like all 50 over odi's wc's. Home side games sold out (SA will sellout not sure on Zim & Namibia) and the sides with either big local support or big traveling fans like aus, England, India & Pakistan will get good crowds.
Rest will struggle like usually.

I watched Canada vs Kenya and they managed to get 12291 people into Newlands for that one.
