Office 365 Home Professional 5 user @ R750 looks attractive until you realize it is a 1 year cloud subscription service
The fact that it's a subscription service is mentioned in the copy and in the table. That said, I am working on another piece to try and explain the different variants available.

Wonder if there will be any upgrades available? I paid R1500 for Office 2010, this is quite a jump in the price :crying:

True, I should rather have said "the implications of a subscription service" but it seems you're already digging into that.

Also waiting for the post to see what the differences are between 365 and full on stand alone office 2013. R800 per year might just be worthit especially if you have a couple of devices and if you can take real advantage of the 20 GB skydrive storage

A difference worth noting between Office 2010 and "the new Office" 2013 -- 2010 Home and Student edition is a 3-user "family pack" for sub-R900, whereas 2013 Home and Student is a single-user license :(

Also, take a look at some of our local retailers' pricing, compared to the prices in the article:
- Home & Student 2013
-- Estimate in article: R 990
-- Makro: R 1,169.00
-- Incredible: R 1,299.95

Maybe time for a follow-up article on how our trusty retailers stack up against the expected / recommended / estimated prices?

I think the pricing is ridiculous - R2430 is not a justifiable price to pay if you're just a home or small business user :wtf:

No need to but that edition then. Main diff is access.

myBB should add Libre Office to that list. Price: free.
I am all for open source, but LibreOffice is not a viable option if you are an enterprise user that needs a bit more power... In all fairness, of you have to choose between Outlook and Thunderbird, the choice is clear...

Not sure what Thunderbird has to do with LibreOffice as Outlook 2010 is available separately but, as a non "power user", I'll take Thunderbird over Outlook as an email client any day of the week.
