Hopefully be won't be going to the WC with a windgat attitude after these games.
That has been our downfall before.

When?

95 - Won
99 - Lost to Aus in the semis, in extra time, the eventual winners. Beat NZ in 3/4 place payoffs.
03 - kuk coach, kuk team
07 - Won
11 - Lost to Aus in the Quarters after a questionable performance by the ref.

I watched from the sidelines, so can't comment too much about who was schit, and who wasn't.

But one thing I can definitely say: The cold weather was cold, and the only thing it was useful for, was keeping my beer cold.

also

there is nothing more beautiful than a packed Ellis Park.

Who can tell me what happened next here?

All blacks bamboozled us at the line out. Looked like it was going to be the 4's ball, then it looked like it might go short, then it was thrown to no one in the middle of the line out. No one other than a sprinting Richie as he joined the line out.

What were the reactions of the folk around you?

Pretty much the same. There was some swearing. The word useless came up a couple of times. The guy behind me seemed to have a liking for the p-word, which he seems is okay if you follow it up with a "askies dame", to my wife next to me.

Meh, lame. Nothing nicer than the Haka in a dead quiet stadium.

I was so pissed off at Newlands one year when vodacom put little plastic drums on each chair. What a frikken racket.

And it was the 19-0 game so not that drowning out the haka worked or anything :erm:

Haha. Newlands is probably the worst stadium in SA, though. In terms of boorish audience behaviour.

I am a Springbok supporter, but there are a few reasons (IMO) why people supported/support the All Blacks:

1 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_South_Africa_rugby_union_tour
Being the prominent reason why the older people use to support the All Blacks.

2 - The Maoris used to stay in the coloured motels, or with community members. Still recently SBW went to the Mosque in the Bo-Kaap I think

3 - Most young people just inherited supporting the All Blacks.

4 - Easy to support the most dominant/entertaining team in the last 20 years.

I think it is mostly a combination of those four.

Then you have never attended Newlands to witness an All Blacks (or NZ franchise) clash, the Cape Crusader attitude is reckless and untoward our hospitality. You can support the All Blacks without being an utter arsehole. Whoah, here is an article, read it.

'Cape Crusaders' lack class

I nicked them the Cape Cosatu's.

:D I am a white Durban born and bread South African, I support all the South African teams, but when it comes to rugby i support the AB's. It has nothing to do with the past or colour or anything of the sort. It is just my preference, if people who where born in KZN and have always lived here yet they can support the Blue Bulls without anyone querying why is it different to support a team from another country?

I have actually been to a few, and it was always okay. Haven't been recently though, last time around 2007-2008 for SR.

I read the article, and I have met people that did some of the same things at Loftus and Ellis Park and they were local people supporting the Lions/Bulls/Sharks/WP/Springboks. Sure it might have esculated of late and I agree it isn't nice when you see Newlands with more support for the Crusaders than the Stormers.

I was at Loftus once (where they don't even sell alcohol anymore) and I was thrown with an half empty/full cooldrink, just because the Bulls were losing and I were supporting the visiting team. And there were booing there too. At least Loftus now explains to every one that they don't allow booing. I think Loftus did the right thing in removing the alcohol as well in the stadium for general ticket holders. If you want beer, go to the beer tent.

The death of the fan outside the Shark tank had nothing to do with people supporting NZ teams, neither did the PE game. The PE one was drunk people going at it, and the one in KZN was probably someone on steriods mixed with alcohol.

Disclaimer: Very anti-alcohol at sports events.

Fill your boots mate. But I just don't understand how you can get any satisfaction or joy 'supporting' another country.

What are they to you? How can you share their emotions when you just latched on a winning team? How can you dance in the street or hug a stranger when they win a game or even more, the world cup?

As a Scottish fan, born and bred, I would never ever in a million years or for a million rand turn my back on them. They win nothing and hardly ever win a game, but that's my boys out there playing for the glory of our country.

We party the wins and we cry at the many more losses, but by fsck when we do beat England or one of the southern hemisphere giants, there is no feeling like that and I pity those who take the easy path to their glory.

Sorry, but it's not yours, no matter how much you like them.

I was Fireman's Arms in town on Saturday to watch the rugby and there was an altercation between a table of NZ supporters and some Bok fans. Waiters had to step in and it all got pretty nasty.

I've been at Newlands to watch SR (a couple of years ago when the Chiefs played against the Stormers) and that was also characterised by heckling and unruly behaviour (from both sets of supporters). The only upside was that the Stormers annihilated the Chiefs and it shut the Caped Crusaders up very quickly. :D

I see some folks are posing the same question I was asking on Saturday... was McCaw's try legal?

I said NO, as he was the scrumhalf and may only join the lineout after the ball has been thrown in... i.e. he may not MOVE towards the lineout. And he must be a certain distance away...

Check that video of the try and see for yourself.

According to NZ pov it was well within their rights to pull rank, Hansen also supported the move and claimed that it was practiced as such. I don’t know… Schalk opposed the try, but he was ignored. I only hope that the rules will be correctly translated in layman terms to indicate the legality behind that try.

I read this article http://www.supersport.com/rugby/article.aspx?Id=3115744 earlier.

The same with the Pumas game, a try was rewarded which was clearly a pass which didn’t go backwards. The Pumas complained, but ignored and the try was awarded which ultimately gave the game away to the Aussies.

All in all, game done. I only wished to see a win, the results must come earlier than to wait until the World Cup.

I think the Aussies will beat the All Blacks at home, they proved to play 80 minutes utilising a strong bench. The All Blacks also didn’t play well… perhaps that move was the ultimate gamble to tip the odds.
