I see that Walcott is due to sit down and have talks over a new deal? Really? He's played 38 games since his last deal was penned? Why do Arsenal do things this way?
Players need to sign a new deal before they have two years left on there current contract. Once he has two years left he can basically leave at the end of that season. If you sign players on 4 year deals it means that you're basically renogotiating every 2 years.
You are aware that he has been injured for twelve months? So counting games since his last deal might be a bit misleading.
Edit: Walcott most probably would have two years left on his current deal come June. So this would be the time where they would start renegotiating.
Edit2: From what a read he has 1.5 years left on his current deal.
No sure what you think Arsenal is doing wrong here.
Arsene Wenger said:Gilberto Silva: He is, for me, class. Modesty, humility, on a human front a top-class person. He was ready to sacrifice himself for the team. You need that screen player in front of the defence who is ready to do the dark and dirty work for other people.
Not sure if anyone mentioned the Invincibles book by Amy Lawrence, but this quote really flummoxes me:
So why the hell has he not been replaced? Wenger is so frustrating![]()
This is exactly the thing. He could not have done anything to earn a contract extension, especially because he still has some time to sign a new one. The mooted contract will also include a pay rise, from what I've seen- which is where my questioning comes from.
You've got two options. Sign new contract or let him go on a free. If you think letting Walcott go on a free makes any any sense then this discussion is over.
