I do, the problem I had was Wenger writing off everyone's chances to begin with, then backtracking less than a month (and two games) later. Stick to your guns, Wenger.

That's the problem with the old man: he's over the hill. How he remains convinced that our current squad (even without injuries) can be serious title contenders, year after year, is beyond me. An eternal optimist, probably.

I was at least a bit happier when he finally admitted to the fact that it was over - we all knew that long before he did, though. But to then suddenly back track when our squad is virtually about to be filled with youth team players because of injuries, and say we're still in it? LOL! Mind games I guess? Nah, he's never been good at them. Maybe the same just senile.

And at the current rate that Chelsea is tearing away from us, their entire squad would have to be in some sort of catastrophic bus accident before we'd be able to catch them. There is pretty much no other way for it to happen... definitely not while they're in their current vein of form.

At that stage City was struggling a bit and at that moment in time it didn't look like anybody could challenge them. City are hitting some form now and have made up some points.

I don't know what Wenger said now, but at the time of the quote I posted I don't see anything wrong with what he said. It was a pretty accurate assesment of how things stood at the time.

As for his prediction, it came with a massive qualifier. "If they keep it up." Thats like saying if Chelsea win all there remaining games they'll win the league, which is Captain Obvious level stuff.

The point is- he wrote off everyone on the basis of a partial situation, before the season had reached Christmas. It was wrong then, and he has backtracked on it now, which compounds the issue.

I don't see where he wrote everyone off.

I don't see where he wrote everyone off.

Here:

Arsene Wenger said:
With Chelsea unbeaten and four points clear at the top of the Premier League, Wenger conceded the broader picture does not look good for Arsenal and the other clubs with title aspirations. “At the moment Chelsea are on course for 100 points this season,” he said. “If you look at the number of points they have, if they keep that up nobody will catch them, that’s for sure. There doesn’t look to be anybody capable to challenge them at the moment.”

He said at that moment it doesn't look like anybody is challenging. With City 8 points of the pace, and the rest even further back it didn't look like anybody was going to challenge them.

He said if Chelsea keep their form they'll win the title.

Still don't see where he wrote anybody off.

He said that no-one can catch Chelsea with the form they are in, when they were 4 points ahead. We are now 6 points ahead and he is claiming the opposite.

At the time of the quote City was 8 points behind. Now they're 6 off the pace.

Sorry, that's right, but the overall gap between first and second has grown. Chelsea's form has not dipped, so we're still on the same course as before. It was a rubbish statement then.

City had just drawn against QPR, lost to West ham 2 weeks earlier and were eight points of the lead. I don't find a problem with Wenger saying that at that time City didn't look like challenging for the title.

Where is Wengers quote were he now says different.

Yeah, and in two games they are suddenly contenders? Sorry, it's moronic for him to backtrack on the basis of two results.

Here's the quote he made today (along with him believing that he will win the league in the next three years).

Sorry, still don't see the problem.

Us winning the league in the next 3 years, I concede, there he is a little bit of the mark imo.

Two games ago: no one can catch Chelsea.
Today: Chelsea cannot be called champions after only 14 games.

The ill-logic of it all is astounding.

Would have been ill-logic if that was what he actually said. Your statements are absolutes, were as Wenger used words like if, at the moment etc.
