It was a combination of Wenger's comments pre-match and the fact that the Arsenal supporters were giving him hectic stick. If he had been well received then I doubt he would have been as intense.
Ah I see, I hadn't seen the pre match comments. Also, your explanation makes sense. Why respect a former clubs fans when the fans hurl abuse at you...

I don't like it when players don't celebrate against their former clubs. Unless they had a long successful career there. (I.e. Drogba at Chelsea).

RvP is a douche, don't know why people expect to have respect for a team and a manager that stuck by him through 7? seasons of injury.

I think he owes a lot to Wenger, He did stick with him through thick and thin..

Pretty much. Ronaldo was cheered when he came to OT and he responded by choosing not to celebrate when he scored, out of respect for the reception he received. This wasn't the case here.

Wenger stuck with him through some injury-ridden patches, RvP repaid that by being Arsenal's top scorer in 4 of the 8 years he was there I think. Not to mention the fee he got for selling RvP.

In any case, clubs are quick to discard players when they feel they don't need them any more. I can't really blame a player for doing what he thinks is best for himself.

Did anyone else think RVP's celebration lacked class? considering that he was a gooner?

/Then again, this is TRAITOR RVP, so I wouldn't expect less :/

Wow can you be more sour?

RVP scored against Arsenal in the 1-1 draw last year he did not celebrate

This is the second season for RVP to score against Arsenal - isn't it time to move on?

It's like when Ronaldo scored against United to knock United out the CL last season you think he didn't celebrate?

I agree. I find it funny how Arsenal fans call him Van Pu$$y and Van Pursestrings but then go and say he lacks class for celebrating. Hypocrites.

I really have no interest in being sour... I'm a pool fan :p

Just noticed it and pointed it out. Randhir and Hawker Clarified his actions .

I like it when players celebrate against their former clubs. I wish they did it more. The former clubs aren't paying their salary anymore.

From reddit:

Wow! Didn't even look at it that way! Cheers! :D

We're seriously lacking firepower, but clearly our defense has been way more important. Poldi and Theo should be back after the break, and we're putting in a GBP22mil bid for Benzema (tabloid speculation, but meh), so here's hoping we can kick on!

What a flop of a match.

I saw on FB that Ramsey and Ozil were sporting new boots for the match.
I rate those boots be taken off the market. Their passing was disgusting - and for a passing team not to pass is just asking for a loss.

Both teams played like ****, we had 61% possession and restricted UTD to the least amount of passes they've made in a home game in 7 years. Losing to a corner isn't too bad.

We've played many games now with a very light squad. Heavy, heavy games. UTD had it easy and rested RVP before the game. That was the difference...

Yet, we really shouldn't dwindle on the lower opposition. Heck even City lost to Sunderland - UTD are a little better than Sunderland.

A good international break period will give some much needed rest to our squad.

Bringing on Bendtner makes me sick to my stomach. It's like unloading your revolver, or blunting your sword, or taking the string off your bow, or the gun powder out of your cannon.
