Have noticed exactly this while playing Hardcore.... When I do MP10 during hardcore runs, I mostly just get blue drops, not even rares! But switch to a public MP0 game, and the rares starts raining down...

Yeah but they are likely to be crappy rares, Its probably happening because you are farming at about 10X the rate as a higher MP level

That honestly only solves 10% of the problem. In D2, the problem was farming the same area (albeit a boss) over and over again. They need to do something else which doesn't get completely monotonous while still being rewarding. Something like randomised dungeons with random monsters who have random properties per dungeon floor or something similar.

I don't have a viable solution to the problem, which appears inherent in all ARPGs, but having 15+ years experience in the field, I'd hoped Blizzard did.

To be frank the problem with D2 was boss farming... This opens up the game for botting, as is currently the case with a few farm bosses in D3. Maybe introducing boss farming to only drop specific items if you have 5NV stacks?

Not really, I am talking about normal difficulty, and number of elite packs vs drops, not time played vs drops.
Even on boss fights I have seen this. For example SK dropped 3 rares for me on mp0 in a public game while on mp10 I got zero rares.
Yes this is probably just only luck... but running around in higher mp levels (mp5 mostly) just have not rewarded me to the same extend as mp0 (part from experience gained)

Been playing a Hardcore WitchDoctor. Ive played maybe 3hrs and got 2 legendaries, and thats on ~30 magicfind

Playing on MP6 generally and whenever I find a legendary it's the crappest thing I have ever seen. Every single item I have found in the last 3 or so days has been utterly useless to anyone.

I think the drop chance generator etc, is broken at the moment Still struggle to gain more Demonic Essence's for crafting... During May I got ~50 per day, while I struggle to get 5 per day at the moment. Maybe I need to go back to MP6 farming...

Playing on MP6 generally and whenever I find a legendary it's the crappest thing I have ever seen. Every single item I have found in the last 3 or so days has been utterly useless to anyone.

With the current economy and amount of half decent stuff being sold for peanuts in the AH, the chances of getting gear that are an upgrade is really small. Almost anyone can build a 100k dps char for ~10-100Mil.
The jump to 200k dps is the problem for most since this can be around 1000Mil if not higher...
Then getting to 300k+ dps.... is just insane.

Why do you think people say that the AH have broken this game (from day one this has been the one biggest issue for most people).

Except for my crafted gear, all my gear I wear is from the AH. I have never found a drop (past level 60) that I can use for my current char, so everything I get I either give away or try to sell on the AH (or just salvage it). The game as it stands now for me is all about playing the AH... I play mostly to get some Demonic essence to craft gear, and enjoy some of the challenges that the ubers at high MP levels still pose. But the day when I kill the Ubers and Diablo on MP10 there most likely will not be much left in the game for me.

I agree, I am strongly thinking of deleting all my SC chars except my Wiz and only playing HC from now on.

I know its awesome right! There is no more just running in head first, it takes a lot more concentration!

Ive come to the sad conclusion that magicfind boosts your chances of gettting yellows quite a bit, but does sweet blue buggerall for your chances of legendaries. The stuff that drop are 99.99999% of the time rubbish. So one is better off rather focussing on gold find
