After a firmware update about a month or so ago, my GPS has stopped functioning. Guess I'll have to reset the phone :(

Looking for my first Droid phone, cheap as possible - on olx/gumtree I have two options at present used Galaxy S5 for R2000 or unused LG G3 for R3000.

Any suggestions?

For the price difference I would take the S5, if price was closer I would take G3.

Still tempted to get the G3 for 3k, seller claims its unused and comes with everything box etc.

Only thing on my mind is its a 2014 phone so kinda old?

I downloaded the global D855 marshmallow firmware and upgraded. Happily the APN settings are not locked, so I could edit the MTN APN to axxess! So no more nasty surprises in that the phone used to switch to the default APN when I let the battery run flat.

How do you find marshmallow on the device so far?

There seem to be many complaints on the audio on the G3 especially buggy headphones and "hissing"?

Been reading reviews and comments.

I found the phone to have a fair bit of lag compared to phones of its time. Probably due to the high res screen and the other hardware not coping

If you don't mind brand or anything perhaps China City on Inanda Road might be your best bet...

16gb version only has 2 gb ram, 32gb version has 3gb ram. Which is yours?

Find out if there is an authorised service agent around and ask them. I got mine from SmartLab in Cape Town, maybe they have a branch your side?

32GB. It wasn't absolutely terrible but probably on par with the S4 and sometimes a little bit worse. The S5 felt more snappy

I paid R212.63 +VAT for the battery as part of sorting out a non-booting software problem under the warrantee.

SmartLab charged R262.28 +VAT assessment fee on top but I got a refund on that part after disputing being charged labour for a warrantee issue. I actual don't believe I needed the battery to sort the software which they re-flashed, as the old battery seemed fine, but I've heard of batteries giving trouble and didn't object to a new one as I'd bought the phone used.
