The 23-year-old England international is expected to undergo a medical in the next few hours before completing a move to London. It is understood there is no commitment to buy the player at the end of the loan period but it should allow Liverpool to free up funds to move for Fulham striker Clint Dempsey.

WRT last night's match. Liverpool looks to be getting into the game play of which Rodgers wants them to play, but still not scoring goals. I consider Hearts a weaker side and once again they can't finish it off. But many positives too take from the game. From what I've seen, Downing has really impressed at left back. Hope he really does well there
