Well, must confess that was rather emotional.

Too loud for Stevie's youngest daughter - sweet

I dont think he should ever be beaten that side.

Watch it again. Unless he had been standing two steps to the left there is no way to get to it. I guess that's the GK error, but a Quality kick nonetheless.

What does puzzle me is why we don't put a defender in the corner for precisely that sort of shot though.

Sure, ok maybe im not giving Puncheon enough credit, he did place it well. I think Migno moving the wrong way at first, is what did him though.

It's sad enough the Captain leaving, but this performance is just something else. Unlucky on the penalty but also just not good enough.

Appropriately crap end to a crap season.

Sigh

So Gerrard leaves on a low, such is life.

Oh, and Lovren is just so poor it beggars belief that we paid so much for him.

At this rate we'll be lucky to end 5th

I suppose we can be grateful that Spurs are playing Everton and Southampton are playing City in their last games.

Definitely one of the better players to have not won a league..Liverpool will miss him, he has inspired them to many victories and you need that in an amongst everything else

Suarez and now Gerrard - big players to loose in 2 consecutive seasons - where to from here

On a sad and emotional day the current team also had its weaknesses laid bare, again.

Sterling is a kid with no confidence at the moment. Mostly of his own making but he needs to make up his mind about what he wants to do.

Lovren. Less said the better.

It was actually weird looking at our bench yesterday and the players not in the squad. After all that was spent, it felt like we were back where we were 12 months ago. Last season against chelsea we needed someone to change the game, to provide that little bit extra and BR would have turned to the bench and turned away again.

Our bench yesterday included Johnson (on his way out), Lambert (on his way out), Sinclair (youngster), Allen (not sure how to classify him), Jones (on his way out), Toure (who knows) and Lucas ( I hope he stays).

Last year it had players like Aspas and Moses to mention a couple.

Out of the squad this weekend was Borini, Balotelli, Sakho, Manquillo, Markovic. We needed numbers in the squad this season because it was very small, but we also needed quality, and judging by what's been produced this season, we have not acquired it, and didnt have it either in reserve. So not only will we have to find players (again) to fill the voids left by Suarez and Studge, yes, still trying to find more goals, but now along with the leadership of Stevie leaving, we also need to find quality to fill that void and lets not even talk about what happened when Carra left.

All of which brings us back to recruitment. For me, most importantly, we need a spine, and we dont have that, and havent had it for a while.

A spine of a quality GK, CB, MF and Striker.

Migs has stepped up in a big way, but he needs competition, and Jones is not it.
CB - Sakho for me is the one that I would like to see partner Skrtel.

MF - I like Hendo a lot, have since before we signed him, but we need that kind of MF quality player that is an A+ player, not just an A.

Forward - we have nobody here at the moment. Studge is a star, but is too injury prone and I think its more in his head now as well. BR has often said that he needs to learn to play thru the pain. Stevie once said that if people could see Luis' ankles and legs after a game you would understand how often he got kicked, but he played on for 90+ mins. And came back for more.

We once had a spine of Reina - Carra/Hyppia - Alonso/Stevie - Torres

We have to improve our spine in order to improve our performances and our increase our expectations. Huge summer ahead for the club and BR.

In all honesty BR should have kept Stevie on for another season... Gerrard given his age, should have accepted that he would not play the usual 30 odd matches as we can all see his body can't survive 2 matches a week.

If BR was clever enough he would have kept Stevie on for another year, bought in a quality replacement or up and coming to leech from Gerrard's guidence/leadership.

SAF did this and he did it well with Rio, Giggs, Scholes, Irwin, etc.
