just realised that we spent 215m POUNDS with BR at the helm and we have **** all to show for it. the only player of true class that we managed amongst that is Coutinho and possibly Sturridge.

we've signed *** over the last few seasons:
mignolet - 12m
lovern - 20m
sakho ( love him but playing in a dysfunctional team) -18m
allen - 15m
Lazar ( young but his style won't work at LFC, could see him flourish elsewhere) 20m
Moreno ( young, who knows, could come good if he learns to defend better) 20m
Lambert - free
Borini - 10m (guessing here)
Ballotelli - 16m
Toure - free

right there is about 130m worth of players who have not improved our side one bit, a damning indication by all accounts.

We've fallen far guys, very far. I doubt our rivals see us as a "big team" anymore. we look more like spuds, who get decent players before they end up leaving for " big teams". we can't hold on to our players and I am fairly certain we are going to struggle to attract " decent" name players ( not big superstars).

FSG is also partly to blame with their transfer policy, though this is a policy that is supported by BR so we can't beat FSG solely.

Hmm, I disagree with some of your classifications

In the "reasonable with good potential", I would put:

Mignolet
Moreno
Lazar

In the solid column I would put:

Sakho
Toure

Lambert, while slow, was also very badly used - he didn't play in a single game where the team was setup for his style of play (mind you, you could say that for almost everyone).

BR is simply too young, inexperienced and stubborn to be the manager at a club as big as Liverpool.

He needs to move on and learn his craft somewhere else - United should never have finished above us this season*, but the difference is that LvG knew how to setup his team to grind out results, and, more importantly, how to play to the strengths of a player like Fellaini (Fellaini! FFS) via the team setup.

* the reason I say this is because they have had massive, expensive failures in Falcao and Di Maria - those two signings were supposed to galvanise Utd, instead they were, by all objective measures, miserable failures. In addition, Van Persie had a terrible season as well.

Thing with Mignolet is he was brought to replace Reina and the thing is he hasn't really been an upgrade on Reina, so in that sense / perspective, he's been a failure.

Moreno and Lazar, I agree the potential is there but at those prices we could and should be getting a bit more finished product / article.

What? He was a golden glove contender this season! He was tied for first going into yesterdays game. Mignolet has improved vastly.

U forgot Lallana @ 26m and Can@10m.
Moreno was more like 12m and Lambert was 4m.

Well Lallana showed some promise (when not injured) and Can has quite frankly (like most other players this season) been played out of position for most of the season.

Our 2nd quarter performance showed that the guys can play well if setup correctly - why Brendan abandoned our best formation of the season (3 at the back) only he knows.

Even more bad news:

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...worst-ligue-1-team-after-loan-season-at-lille

Origi has scored eight times in 33 appearances for the French side, who finished eighth in Ligue 1 this season.

Sounds like the French really took the knives to him - bit rough on a 19 year old I would say.

We'll wait and see, besides, we should not be pinning our hopes on a 20 year old - it's bad football management - we need to have the team play as a team, not a group of disjointed individuals.

Well a team playing like a team without a leader is just as bad... look at United... 0 attacking threat, defensively wobbly. The leadership is pretty weak...

Think it's time for a change...I don't know...I like to have long term managers but I wonder if BR is just a tad inexperienced. My biggest gripe is how the transfer money was spent. They have wasted too much.

What I like about Klopp is that he also develops talent.

Is it safe to come out yet?

Pathetic performance against Stoke, Mark Hughes must have loved it, Charlie Adam certainly did, and John fuc**ng walters!!

But not to worry, the lads are comfortably enjoying themselves on the beach and the sun in Dubai after leaving sunday night. The trip was planned weeks ago, yet another Stevie farewell thing. How much more? Cmon!

They should have been refunding the supporters that traveled to watch the rubbish they put out on Sunday. By all accounts, and its media speculation so who knows, but it appears that BR is safe. I think many of us would agree that we would like to see him stay, get things sorted, and have us playing like we did when SAS was tearing defences apart. The problem is however, what if he cant fix it, and we end up sacking him 3 months into the new season, and missed out on Klopp, De Boer, Rafa, Ancellotti or other managers that may have been able to do more had they been approached during the summer.

BR has spent a helluva lot of cash, and for us to look back after 3 seasons and feel like we dont have a team, well, thats pretty damn depressing. The committee thing is not helping, or working. BR ends up with certain players that he didnt want, and then doesnt trust them. Migs is actually a clear example of that. BR wanted Vorm, a keeper that can distribute the ball. The committee went for Migs and now we are left with a keeper that has to try to do something he cant, distribute and play as a sweeper... in the system we play, or played... or tried...or didnt...we've had so many... and thats one game...

All in all its been a really poor season, but I do ask myself whether thats on the back of the previous season and the raised expectations as a result of it or.... Am I expecting more from our club considering what we've spent and what it is that I would like to see us achieve.

Steven Gerrard has published a heartfelt letter of thanks to Kopites in today's Liverpool Echo ahead of his departure this summer – here is the text from the Reds captain in full…

To all my fans,

Saying goodbye hasn't been easy.

Liverpool Football Club has been such a massive part of my life since I was eight years old and I know how much I'm going to miss it.

It's been an emotional time for my family and I with my final game at Anfield against Crystal Palace and then my last appearance away to Stoke City.

But I've been blown away by the send-off I've been given by the supporters and I'd like to thank every one of you. It's been very humbling and it's something I'll cherish for the rest of my life.

It's been an absolute privilege to represent this football club for so long.

When I was a kid, kicking a ball around in Ironside Road in Huyton, all I ever wanted to do was play for Liverpool. I dreamed of pulling that shirt on just once.

I never thought I'd get close to achieving that so to be able to look back on a first-team career of 710 appearances spanning 17 years I'm immensely proud.

I've loved every minute of playing for the best supporters in the world.

It's been an amazing journey. There have been some glorious highs and some crushing lows, but throughout you have given me fantastic support and I'll never forget that.

The highs have been all the sweeter because they have been achieved with my boyhood club. We have shared those special moments together.

Of course the pinnacle of my career arrived in Istanbul 10 years ago. That was the best night of my life. When I lifted the European Cup, there was no prouder man on the planet.

It meant so much to me to deliver that trophy for you. The supporters played such a big part in helping to inspire that famous comeback against AC Milan. I'll never forget how they helped to lift our chins off the floor after that nightmare first half.

People have often asked me about the pressure on my shoulders to deliver for Liverpool but I've never seen that as a burden. There's been huge responsibility on me but I've always loved and embraced that.

It's been a massive honour to be captain of this club for so long. I've always given my best and tried to lead by example.

I've been very fortunate to play alongside some incredible players and for managers who have all helped me to improve and develop. I'm proud of what I've given back - the sacrifices, the dedication and the loyalty over the years.

But more than anything I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to play in front of these fans for so long.

Liverpool is my home and I love this city. But I believe the time is right to open a new chapter as I prepare to move to America.

I want to keep playing every week in the final few years of my career and I'm looking forward to embarking on a new challenge with Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS.

I'll be away for the next couple of years but this isn't the end of my long association with Liverpool FC. I've been a supporter all my life and that will continue.

I hope to get the opportunity to come back and serve the club again one day. I feel that I can make a contribution in some role in the future.

But today is all about looking back and saying thank-you to the fans for the magnificent support you have given me over the past two decades. You have helped me to fulfil my dreams over and over again and given me memories I wouldn't swap for anything.

Thank you.

Steven Gerrard

Thank you Steven, Thank you.

I want him gone given that we have opportunity to get Rafa, Klopp or Ancellotti. If we can't get one of those, then we might as well stick with him but then we can probably write off next season (barring the Stoke result finally getting him to do real introspection and him going for some coaching to stop being so stubborn, and getting in back room support who can compensate for his weak areas; would also help if he stopped mouthing off embarrassing stuff in the media; oh, and play the players in their normal positions rather than all over the place).

He's not a bad fellow but just too inexperienced and stubborn at this level imo (won't go into the many examples, they are there for all to see).
