Im sure that was the logic used when you guys signed Lambert? Liverpool need more than squad fillers imho.

I think he is a good signing. We should clear our Borini, Lambert and Balo and bring in a big name striker (Higuain?) to partner Studge. Ings can be 3rd choice.

I really don't see that happening. Borini sure and maybe Lambert/Balo. But that would still leave you with Origi, Balo/Lambert, Ings and Sturridge, almost no room for a big name and you're back to hoping Sturridge stays fit.

Well, we have Europa League to play so we need coverage.

We do need more than 'squad' fillers but we need squad fillers too.

He is young, works hard, has potential - not bad business at all.

Better than the Lambert business and better than the Balo gamble

We need competition and hunger amongst the strikers, something we did not have this season.

Balo - at worst - lazy sot; at best - bad gamble/Rogers had no idea how to setup a team to utilise his strengths
Borini - just not skillful enough;
Lambert - sentimental buy + Rogers had no idea how to setup a team to utilise his strengths

Origi - young, will need to prove himself - will be hungry
Ings - young, move to a big club - will be hungry

At least we now have a couple of quick, mobile options who are young enough (one hopes) to be molded while being able to work hard week in and week out.

The thing is though, Origi and Ings limit your ability to sign a real top class striker which is what you need. I just see Ings as sideways movement for Liverpool, i dont seem him taking you to the next level and it seems the transfer strategy hasn't changed much. I know hes just been signed and there is still a long way to go in the transfer market, so i understand some of your optimism but i think if i was a Liverpool supporter i would feel very underwhelmed.

Also im sure everyone can agree that the Strikers position was the worst position for Liverpool this last season, its where they should really be splashing out and going big. Add squad fillers to the other positions.

Oh, we are, but with the current management regime we have take what comfort we can...

I mean, Benteke as the potential marquee signing, ffs... :(

Edit: Also, remember that Origi is back from loan (not money on the table) and, while I'm not sure what Ings' fee will be, we have plenty of games to play them in (Cups+Euro+League) - we need backup in the striker department if only so that BR can stop farking around with player other people out of position.

Glad that Ings deal is sorted.

Will he be the striker to take us the next level? Probably not. Will Origi be? Nope, doubt it. But What is the next level? Unlike united, Chelsea or city, LFC cant splash major cash and not mind if we miss the mark. Mainly because our depth in the squad lacks quality (or is poorly managed). So, to build quality in depth, or depth at least, we have to start somewhere. United for example could spend 16million on Falcao but if he didn't work out they had wayne and rvp..not bad options.

Considering our style of play, last season striker purchases was a shambles. Lambert and Balo don't fit..Borini was an outcast, which left us with Studge. This time around, we have Ings, Origi, Studge and I am hoping for another quality striker that will be a first choice ahead of those mentioned. That should suffice in terms of depth and quality for the upcoming season. If we manage to get into the top 4 next time, if, then we can build on that some more. Same goes for the other areas of the squad. Just wish we wouldn't keep messing it up like we do...

If you manage to get that other striker then i've probably been too hasty in my criticism, lets wait and see then.

Well last season Ings scored more than Studge, Ballotelli and Lambert combined so that's already a good start.

Studge, Borini, Balo and Lambert scored 8 goals in the league. Ings and Origi don't really have high standards to live up to

Oh, I would prob shift off Origi if we could get all our money back.I don't believe in signing players that has only starred in a world cup, with no one having ever heard of them.

God, I really hope we don't sign this guy.

http://metro.co.uk/2015/06/08/liver...s-st-germain-winger-ezequiel-lavezzi-5234989/

Should have signed him over Balo IMHO. I believe him to be a poor mans Tevez

I hope we don't get Lavezzi. Article talks about him as being a pacy forward, not exactly the fastest around to be honest, or the youngest and coming from PSG he'd want massive wages.

Seeing we haven't actually signed Ings yet. Still need to pay Burnley the tribunal fee and that hasn't even been agreed yet.
