GERRARD AGREES NEW CONTRACT
Paul Eaton 03 April 2009

Liverpool Football Club today confirmed Steven Gerrard has agreed a two-year extension to his current contract.
The Liverpool skipper, who has two years to run on his current deal, will soon put pen to paper on a new agreement to keep him at Anfield until at least 2013.

With manager Rafa Benitez and key members of his backroom team signing new contracts over the past two weeks, Gerrard's deal is another timely boost as the Reds look to end the season on a high.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpoolfc.tv this morning, Benitez said: "This is fantastic news for the club.

"Steven has once again shown his commitment and it was an easy deal to agree. As soon as we offered him the option he said yes. There were no problems at all. He wants to stay for life.

"This deal sends out another clear message that we are moving forward as a club. To know we have a player of Steven's quality with us for many more years is a great boost for the club and the fans.

"He is clearly a player who inspires those around him and even though he is playing very well at the moment, I still think his best years are ahead of him."

I hope he waived a pay increase so it could be used to bring in more quality players. It's not like he needs anymore money. Doubt it though

So I guess the lads will be in good spirits when we take on Fulham tomorrow. We can go top for a day if we beat them :)

The guy earns around 100 000 pounds a week. Why does he need an increase. Surely if trophies is the main priority and not money he shouldn't take one.

The last time I celebrated a goal like that was in May 2005, Istanbul. I went mental when Yossi blasted that ball into the net.!!!

Well, after the discussion about English footy, I decided to do a bit of reading on various topics. I stumbled across this while reading about Shanks on Wikipedia.

When Liverpool player Tommy Smith once consulted Shankly to tell him he couldn't play next week, due to his injured knee, Shankly replied: "Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean Your knee, it's Liverpool's knee!"

That man was solid gold!

Solid gold indeed. Without a doubt the greatest Liverpool manager ever, and he was from Scotland.

You know it's quite funny... the managers considered the greatest ever (Shanks, Michels), didn't win much (in comparison to their successors) but they developed the game to such an extent that they outshine any trophy winning by a mile.

Sir Matt aside ofcourse... he was the ULTIMATE...
