ya well you can blame rafa for that... playing both Skirttle (fractured cheek) and Carragher (look at that badange on his head...)

Rafa is crazy to risk his central defence... let the youngster Asomething mah jiggy play ;D

Well if you were the Manager with your team coming up against the likes of Young and that other fella with the long name, would you play the youngsters with limited experience or your experienced defenders who are supposedly fit even though they have battle scars from previous games.

I would think it's obvious, wouldn't you?

Been saying that Lucas was our weakest link since last season but i must admit he has performed better in our opening few games.
Can't blame him for the own goal - just unlucky.

Our worst problem last night was that we have no creativity in the middle, Villa scored a goal and were willing to soak up the pressure.
We kept coming at them but nothing was really creative in my opinion.

Hopefully aquaboy can change that..

Agreed. The only solution to the lack of creativity while Aquilani is still not available is to drop Gerrard back into the midfield alongside Mascherano and put Yossi behind Torres and bring back Riera to play on the left. I think Riera should be back to 100% match fitness by now.

In the words of Alan: "Points and laughs" :D

P.s. Lucas for MVP:p

:p:D

I think Lucas is on Sir Alex's payroll. In friendly matches he is brilliant, as soon as he starts in a league fixture he is f##cking terrible.

The same payroll as officials and opposition keepers?

Word. I loved that way 'Pool played in the latter half of last season, banging in goals from everywhere and playing attractive football while doing it. The only reason Benitez played such attacking football was because he had no choice, he had to catch United (after that horrible run in January). Now in the opening two weeks, he's suffered to losses, the same amount he had in the whole previous season.

Exactly. I thought after last season's run in Rafa would have learned his lesson. Evidently I was wrong. It's the same old defensive crap as always

When is Aquilano supposed to be arriving?

Always liked him at Roma.

He has already arrived. He is busy recovering from his ankle surgery he had in May this year. He is expected to be playing by the beginning of October.

erm how in the world does he arrive with a injury/surgery? thought they have to pass fitness?

AF put Evans on against the likes of Roma (CL debut), Chelsea (League Debut), etc...

There are many things that they check during a medical in order to be satisfied with the players total health. Fitness is not the be all and end all of a medical.

As for Evans, it depends what the circumstances are. Was Ferdinand or Vidic injured or not match fit for those games?

Skrtel and Carra are both fully fit to play 90 mins hence why they were able to last the entire game.

agree with you on dropping gerrard back while Aquaman recovering ,however against the smaller teams we should still stick with Lucas ,so that he can get more confidence but against the bigger teams we should be playing with more creativity as their defence will obviously be stronger

I think we will bounce back nicely, it way too early in the season to write off any team let alone Liverpool - Just a little bump on the road to no. 19

Ola, newbie here!

Liverpool's performance was bad last night. Why does Rafa persist on playing two holding midfielders at home?

i agree we dnt need two DM, he shud just play mascherano and maybe let gerrard play in the mid till aqualini is fit, give NGog a start :

hmmm is it me or is Liverpools midfield and defence looking rather thin?

I think credit to Aston Villa, they played a awesome game of defend and counter... really caught liverpool napping... they closed torres down with at least 2 guys each time the ball was about to be passed to him.

Still have to admit - I liked the way Torres played. His movement his simply superb. He just needed a few more killer balls his way *innocent whistle* and he could have done a lot more. Gerrard didn't look that good though. Is he carrying an injury?

What a game! First comeback of the season :)

Glen Johnson is ****ing class. 4 games, 3 assists and 2 well taken goals. Can't even compare him with Arby.

Kyriagos looks like a good signing. He won almost everything in the air today. Not much he could do about Davies' knock-down for the second goal. Looked a bit slow though but that's understandable.

Nothing special from Lucas today. Can't wait to see Aquilani in action .

Great to see Torres and Gerrard looking like their old selves again :)

All in all a good performance but we need to sort out our defending from set-pieces

am i the only one dissapointed with yesterday's match?? 36 shots, half on target and only 3 goals?? that is not good enough and exactly the reason why we drew so many games last season....

not taking the chances when they come...
