am i the only one dissapointed with yesterday's match?? 36 shots, half on target and only 3 goals?? that is not good enough and exactly the reason why we drew so many games last season....

not taking the chances when they come...

I was very disappointed. Total kill football tactics(TKF) again.

yeah i'm dissappionted too.

same old story. we relying as usual on gerrard and torres to produce the magic. when they don't come up with the goods then rafa wants to blast the senior players. teams know how to play us. cut off gerrard and torres then we look a little predictable and no plan b.we need other players in the team to take the pressure of gerrard and torres.

I still have question marks over these players, kuyt, babel, lucas, voronin, ngog,el zahir. we are not consistent. when our defence were good we were not scoring enough goals, but now we score goals frequently, but our defensive sucks.

we lack width in our team. we are not stretching teams often enough to create space and get beyond the back 4.against villa we tried the whole game to go through the middle. i question rafa on his tactics. the 20mil he spend on an injured player, he could have gone and bought an established winger like david silva or an out and out striker to partner torres.

gerrard must play deep.if we play 4-4-2 then we have gerrarrd and masch with torres and ville upfront.

of the top 4 i can only chelsea to be early favourites and they have the most balanced team atm. all round they look good.

i hope we start playign the way we played the second half of last season.

Basically 9 players prevent the otherside from playing and 2 are supposed to carrying almost the entire burden of attack while putting in defence shifts as well.

I think Aquilani is the most important. If he can replace Alonso and allow Gerrard to link up with Torres as they did last season and the season before that - then i think Liverpool will be much stronger.

Lets hope he is allowed to get more forward than Alonso was.

What a game! First comeback of the season :)

Glen Johnson is ****ing class. 4 games, 3 assists and 2 well taken goals. Can't even compare him with Arby.

Kyriagos looks like a good signing. He won almost everything in the air today. Not much he could do about Davies' knock-down for the second goal. Looked a bit slow though but that's understandable.

Nothing special from Lucas today. Can't wait to see Aquilani in action .

Great to see Torres and Gerrard looking like their old selves again :)

All in all a good performance but we need to sort out our defending from set-pieces

It's definitely a huge problem for us. Not sure why but most probably because Carra is playing below par. We need to sort it out.

Valencia were not selling them or were only willing to sell them if someone offered 40 million plus. Note how they are still at Valencia. In other owords, there is no point in complaining about us not getting them when we don't have the money to do so.

Insua is pretty weak at corners as well IMO

Going by what Christian Purslow says Rafa blew his transfer kitty on improved contracts for Torres and co

@ poolmania , I thought I was the only one seeing that Carra is the problem in our defence he seems to be playing way to deep (maybe he doesnt want to get caught out for pace ) and he seems to be letting his defensive partner do all the work :(

Carra needs to up his game quickly

I don't think he's playing that deep compared to last season. I still think he plays and positions himself the same as last season. This season however, he hasn't got stuck in when a ball comes through the middle or over the top. He looks off form. Look at the game on Saturday. the new fella probably won most the balls coming into the box. I can't remember seeing Carra on the end of any of them.

One thought is that seeing as he's playing with a relatively new look defence (especially on Saturday), his concentration is on organizing the defensive line and so loses focus on his own game. A possibility.

It's been coming for a while now. Even last season you could see he wasn't at his best (IMO). We always looked much more assured with Sammi playing.
But what can you do except hope that his form picks up. Agger will add a new dimension to our defence once he returns though. The way he carries the ball from defence is just what we need at the moment.

Maybe it's time we dropped the zonal marking system.. Doesn't seem to be working too well. What do you guys think?

Agreed, Insua is definitely weak at corners, then again, Aurelio (ahead of Insua for selection) isn't great either.

On the money issue. Spending money on important players staying at the club is the right thing to do. It is however not the reason we didn't buy anyone of the Valencia lads. Even if he didn't use money for the contract extensions, we still wouldn't of had the money muscle to get one of them. That is a FACT.

The only way to get them is too take out a massive loan like what Real Madrid did and then use the money and spend big. The problem with it is that we will further our already massive debt (due to the new stadium) and that is not the Liverpool way.

I don't know, I can't see how we defend different to let's say, Chelsea. Is this zonal marking system not a media myth perhaps. Do we actually use zonal marking or is it just media bollocks.

Agreed about Valencia. It is odd given their supposed dire financial problems that they've held on to those players though.

I'm not sure about extending the contracts of key players rather than adding to the team. Giving Torres an increase and extending his contract by one year is a waste. The Prem is the sole priority surely. The only way to win it is be bring in enough quality players. Doesn't make sense to me.
