Fears over Liverpool FC’s European rich list status

LIVERPOOL FC are in danger of losing their top ten status in the league of Europe’s richest football clubs, according to a leading accountancy firm.

The club was ranked as Europe’s 9th richest club in 2010/11 with annual revenues of 203m euros, according to figures published by football finance experts at accountancy firm Deloitte.

However Tottenham and Manchester City are hard on the club’s heels in 11th and 12th place respectively. Deloitte predict that at least one, and possibly both, will overtake Liverpool FC by the time the annual rankings are published this time next year.

Mark Roberts, a senior consultant with Deloitte’s sports business group, said: "In terms of Liverpool FC, being in European competition is important to generate revenue. Otherwise they will succumb to pressure from clubs coming up the league into that top 10.

"They had the new shirt sponsorship and kit deals, but you have clubs like Manchester City and Tottenham putting pressure on top 10 places in our table.

"It’s important for Liverpool if it is to retain its status to have European football."

Deloitte predict that this year’s 10th placed club, Schalke 04, will almost certainly be overtaken by Manchester City. Tottenham could also be promoted to a top 10 spot at LFC’s expense.

Mr Roberts added that in the longer term it was also essential for the club to build a new stadium if it wanted to compete with the newly enriched clubs.

Real Madrid retained top spot in Deloitte’s table for the seventh year running with annual revenues of euros448m. Spanish rivals Barcelona are in second place with euros398m, with Manchester United in third with euros349m.

United will be out of the top 5 in the next 2 years.
watch this space.

Been hearing that since 2002, hasn't happened since. As long as 'King' Kenny doesn't manage at Old Trafford, it won't happen, and certainly not in the next 2 years. You're dreaming.

Ferdinand gifted you that goal sigh :/

Other than that, United completely dominated despite Giggs having a horrible game.

Not stupid team selection. We have overpriced average players and everyone tries and convinces themselves we are good enough. We aren't.

Have no idea wtf Evra was trying to do as Suarez walked off the pitch goading him like that.

EDIT: Now that this effing game is over, now everyone can find something else to concentrate on for a while, will that happen? Nope. Cue another 2 weeks of Suarez vs Evra.
