Just a quick one, having a debate with a utd mate about liverpool's 5 european trophies to united's 3 and bla bla bla.

The crunch of why UTD didn't win more was apparently the munich Disaster. I think to use that as an excuse is in poor taste?

Do you guys also use that as a defence for not winning more european cups?

It's not an excuse, but a good reason. No telling whether would have more than three by now if it hadn't happened.

On the other hand, we should have had more than two during SAF's reign. Of course he had to go up against one of the best club teams ever, and was shanghaied a bit by the European ban. I'm sure he also feels he could have one or two more.

Well considering the team that went down in the disaster might have beaten Red Belgrade and possibly reach the final and won it... it would have been the team to keep winning had the 8 players not died and United needing to rebuild... At the time of the disaster United were second - they finished that season 9th which meant they lost out on another European chance...

If United won that we would have been 4 title up and if those 8 players did not die plus the rest of the team injured (Charlton) along with Matt Busby. United may have been still in the European competition and challenging for years. Instead United ended up rebuilding a new team for 4 years

You agree with everything in that article?

that sounds like dbecks wrote the article... not a single note on how United seems to win matches with him in it. Just down playing his passing as sideways and backwards... shame he should do more research before posting junk like that :)

I don't think the European ban affected United as much as it did Liverpool and Arsenal...Sir Alex's first title came after the ban and Liverpool \ Arsenal were the two best teams in that period (to my recollection anyway). I think we came second in the First Division somewhere in there but I doubt we would have gone too far in Europe if we had played. I guess an argument could be made about gaining experience but it was still 6-7 years after Ferguson's first league title before United won the Champions League in '98.

Everton more than Arsenal. My point wasn't that we would be there necessarily, but we did miss out on European experience which no doubt would have caused us (and all eligible English teams) some lack of progression.

Januzaj injured for Sunday. Probably a good thing :) Herrera behind Rooney? Or Rooney with Fellaini?

It seems as though Tony Pulis will get his man as we understand West Brom have agreed a fee for Jonny Evans with Manchester United and the player is due to have a medical tonight.

Someone better find out where Kopite stays and be with him in this difficult time.

Better yet maybe we should put him on Suicide watch

So with Evans to sold to WBA and Blackett on year loan to Celtic, are we going to be short at the back?

I'd like to know why the youngsters aren't getting much of a chance, Perreira (?), Keane, Lingard etc. They always seem to do well in pre season but rarely ever get a run in the league. Aren't we producing good enough young talent
