Angel Di Maria: I left Manchester United because of Louis van Gaal

Di Maria, who joined the Red Devils last August for a record British transfer fee of £59.7m, called time on his United career earlier this month.

The Argentina star's decision to leave Old Trafford after less than a year was a perplexing one to say the least.

The former Real Madrid ace - who made his PSG debut in their 3-0 victory over Monaco on Sunday - was rumoured to have had several fallings out with United chief Louis van Gaal.

And the winger has revealed that a string of bust-ups with the Dutchman played a major factor in his decision to leave the Premier League.

SHOCK EXIT: Di Maria left Old Trafford earlier this month
“It’s difficult to adapt to Van Gaal, I had a number of flare ups with him”
Angel Di Maria
“Van Gaal has his philosophy and it is one of the reasons why I wanted to leave Manchester United,” Di María told ESPN Radio.

Di Maria, 27, made a blistering start to life at Old Trafford, scoring three goals and racking up six assists in his first ten outings.

However his stunning form dipped in early December after he picked up a hamstring injury against Hull.

He was unable to reach the levels he set in the early months on the 2014-15 season and was eventually relegated to the bench.

FROSTY RELATIONSHIP: Van Gaal and Di Maria had a number of bust-ups
But the midfielder - who cost PSG £45m - believes Van Gaal's decision to change his position was the main factor behind his poor performances.

“I made a very good start and then I got injured. Things weren’t quite working for me and Van Gaal changed my position,” he added.

“It’s difficult to adapt to Van Gaal. I had a number of flare ups with him.”

Watched the Swansea highlights...both times Luke Shaw was gone walkabout. He needs to work on that...the first goal especially. United were attacking down the right and Shaw was roaming around up the field doing nothing really.

Shaw is an attacking fullback. Both times he is up the pitch as we are attacking and in possession.

For the first goal, Rooney needlessly gives the ball away during a promising attack. Shaw is never going to get back, Swansea passed it out of the back with Williams way too quickly.

For the second, it's a similar situation. Swansea work their way up the pitch quickly, Shelvey was on point once again. No ways would Shaw have gotten anywhere close. Not to mention that with two DM's, one should be covering the fullback.

Let's not forget we created a lot of attacks from Shaw's side, and it was him that provided the assist for Mata.
