I would like all the Rugby experts who have contributed to this thread to please explain to me:

(1) Why would a coach bring on a player for 3 minutes??
(2) Why would that same coach for absolutely no reason at all, replace a player who is on the point for taking a record?


Of all the inexplicable decisions taken by the SA coach in this World Cup, the above two are the most perplexing of all.
I hope someone is able to provide some insight into the logic behind the above two decisions.

Paige should have come on at 65 minutes, when the score was 24-6 (if I remember correctly).

Habana had a shocker of a game and should have been benched just after half time.

Yep, Habana was poor on professionalism as well, not to mention that he made the game all about himself when rugby is a team sport. In a sense I’m glad that Etzebeth took on the wing position…

Foreign coach, so that we can get past all the racist and provincialism whining.

Foreign coaches won’t change anything. I do support to perhaps introduce one as an assistant coach than bringing them in as short-term specialists. Whomever is appointed as coach has to abide to the rugby structure powered by SARU’s politics.

The respective rugby unions will still need to push the development programmes, pushing the players through the domestic championships into the Super Rugby Franchises. When these players are selected to represent on international level then they have to be mould accordingly to suit the ‘new’ game plan.

This also question why certain enterprising players capable to wear the Green & Gold had to do their best on domestic level...

Really happy he didn't get the record "solo". Lomu got his tries in 2 world cups. Habana has been a very selfish player for a long time now. Should have been dropped ages back. How many times in the last few years has he cost us by going for interceptions? He has been living on his legacy.

Pretty sure it gets drilled in from school days already. They probably just decide on which version before the match.
